1024x768, all high, 4xAA/4xAF, stays fairly close to 60fps, no dips below the 40's and feels very smooth.

edit, sorry I'm really pissed, got a x850xtpe and this game doesnt even run at 1280x720.

LOL I am pissed to, and to quote Scott Evans: "If you want to max all your settings up, you will need P4 3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 256MB video card"

Which is exactly what I have, my video card is an X800 Pro. And I'm running at 35FPS at 1024x768, AA 4x/AF 16x, All Settings Maxed. The only time I reach 60FPS is when I stare into the air/ground or when I'm inside a building.

Actually, he said 2GB of RAM. When he says 256MB card, he more than likely means a 256MB card such as a 6800 GT or Ultra or an X850XT/PE. I mean you could technically go get a 6600 vanilla 256MB card, and yes it is 256MB, but will it give you great performance? No.

but wait surely you know more ram = more performance!

Not tested actual fps but never noticed a dip in frame rates. Runs so smooth I routinely show off and fly under bridges on the river with the helicopter and the jets. No real point to doing it other than peoples expressions.

Game looks amazing as well.

Hey, you guys know that when set in widescreen, AA doesn't work, right? Set it to 6X or 0X, and go in the game and watch framerates and take a good look at jaggies. No difference. Battlefield Vietnam is the same way, AA just doesn't work in widescreen for some reason.

My new settings are:

1024x768@85Hz

4xAA

AXP 2700+ @2200 w/200FSB
1024MB PC2700 @200 w/11-3-2-2.5

My previous settings were without 4xAA and wow, it looks amazing with AA on.

I first tried the game with all settings High with 4xAA 16XAF and it was choppy, but weird because the game would pause then take off again, and I was not able to play on-line for some reason either. Played it for like 4hrs lastnite with settings listed above and it seemed to do OK. Seems like there is some choppyness at the start of a game.

You can't get it to run smoothly on 1280x960 with your system?

That is not true. AA works fine in 1920x1200 for me. You need to set it as app preference in the CP, and then set it in-game. Dont try to force it thru the drivers.

How are you guys getting 1280x1024, I don't have that option in the game, what file are you modifying?

All at highest
4xAA

Athlon FX-53
1 GB Corsair XMS DDR400 2-3-3-6
GeForce 6800 GT (401/1100)

To enable non-standard resolutions, right click on the BF2 Demo icon on your desktop (not in the demo folder) and select properties. If you wanted 1280x1024, you would modify the target so that it reads "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024 . The numbers after szx and szy are the horizontal and vertical resolutions you want, respectively. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip Felraiser.

As hard as I try I can't slow down this card...highest settings are very comfortable (60+ FPS) in most situations. Maybe this game is quite CPU-dependent due to ragdoll physics?

1280x1024@75 Hz
All settings HIGH
4xAA
?xAF (app pref in ForceWare, no option in BF2?)

(no overclocking)
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester
1GB pqi turbo DDR400 tccd 2-2-2-5
Leadtek GeForce 6800NU 256MB (325/600)

These settings are very comfortable for gameplay. Looks beautiful. BF2 is so damn fun, especially being a n00b to the series. Not to mention realistic. Too bad it makes my LCD ghost like there's no tomorrow...especially when you turn while in a tank. Should I get a G70/R520 this holiday or a new LCD? :Q

Ah much better, still running at high with no AA now at 1280x1024, much more playable then Far Cry with the same settings...thanks for the resolution tip.

Too bad its not playable at that res for me. Perhaps if I lowered the game settings.. but Im not so sure I would rather have AA, than good textures.

Is AA borked in the demo? Are you sure AA is on because that pic has tons of jaggies.

I dont know about borked, but you cant force it with thru the CP, at least not for ATi cards. Is has to be set for App Preference in the CP, then applied within the game.

AA does work in the game though. Here is a shot from about the same place. You can see the power lines, gun, crane, trees, buildings, in general everything looks better. You can see the AF workin, on the road easily. For me, AF also takes a huge FPS hit, more so than any other game.

Here are some 1600x1200 shots I took, where you can really see the AA difference. And some people say they cant tell AA is on with 1600x1200..

No AA 1

4xAA 1

I can EASILY see the difference.. primarily in the crane. It looks horrible without AA to me. The gun in front looks much better to, as well as the trees. Not in the shot, but power lines look a ton better with AA. I dont like the broken images they have, with no AA.

No AA 2

4xAA 2

More of the same. Looks so much better to me with AA, than with not. Even at a high res such as 1600x1200. I really cant imagine playing with no AA at 1024x768. Would look aweful.

Yes Im anal about jaggies, but I just really dont like them. To most people it probably looks fine with no AA.
