Too bad its not playable at that res for me. Perhaps if I lowered the game settings.. but Im not so sure I would rather have AA, than good textures.

Is AA borked in the demo? Are you sure AA is on because that pic has tons of jaggies.

I dont know about borked, but you cant force it with thru the CP, at least not for ATi cards. Is has to be set for App Preference in the CP, then applied within the game.

AA does work in the game though. Here is a shot from about the same place. You can see the power lines, gun, crane, trees, buildings, in general everything looks better. You can see the AF workin, on the road easily. For me, AF also takes a huge FPS hit, more so than any other game.

Here are some 1600x1200 shots I took, where you can really see the AA difference. And some people say they cant tell AA is on with 1600x1200..

No AA 1

4xAA 1

I can EASILY see the difference.. primarily in the crane. It looks horrible without AA to me. The gun in front looks much better to, as well as the trees. Not in the shot, but power lines look a ton better with AA. I dont like the broken images they have, with no AA.

No AA 2

4xAA 2

More of the same. Looks so much better to me with AA, than with not. Even at a high res such as 1600x1200. I really cant imagine playing with no AA at 1024x768. Would look aweful.

Yes Im anal about jaggies, but I just really dont like them. To most people it probably looks fine with no AA.

I find this bogus. I have "application preference" in my ATI settings, yet I cannot set any AA in the game. The only option for AA is "OFF". I have an X800XT PE, A64 3700+ and 1GB of RAM. I think I'm running 5.1 catalyst drivers. If it really works as you say, could the older drivers be the issue? I'm on 5.1's because I've had no need to upgrade. When I went to 5.3, I got constant lockups in games, so i went back to 5.1's with no issues.

QUESTION:

I have a ATI AIW 9800 and whatever video settings I use...there are messed up things on the screen. A lot of stuff is black and its totally whack. Should I be using AA at all? Whats a good resolution that Id be able to run? (highest is 1600x1200....for some reason i dont have 1280x1024 option...only 1280x960...wth??) I dont want the game to look like a$$ with low settings...my friend showed it to me on his 9600XT and it looked amazing...my card is better than his so I should at LEAST be able to make it look like his! Any ideas?

I dont care what you find it. It works fine for me, as the screen shots show.

Does anyone know why I dont have the option of choosing 1280x1024 resolution? the highest i have available is 1024x768. I have a P4 3.2, 1 gig ram, X800 XT, and a 17" lcd with 1280x1024 native resolution.

Add this to the end of your shortcut, on your desktop.

+szx 1280 +szy 1024

So it would look something like this; "C:\Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024"

It should work. Are you sure you did it right?

If you edit the game file to try and do it, some servers will kick you for altering the game. At least thats what happened to me when I tried to alter my FOV in the video .con. I would double and triple check to make sure you did it right. If it still doesnt work, I dont know what else to tell you.

I have one, but my main machine has an x800XL and I haven't installed BF2 ot he machine with the x800Pro. The x800Pro is only a little slower than the x800XL, so see what people are setting for x800XL, and try that or use slightly lower settings from that.

1152x864 with everything on high except dynamic shadows which I turned off because they look like total crap. I'm also using 4x AA and 8x AF. I'm getting about 60+ FPS with occasional dips down in the 40's.

As soon as I get my other gig of memory on tuesday I should be able to bump my res up to 1280x960.

So are a lot of Nvidia guys unless you installed their drivers that come with the demo. Of course EA is pertners with Nvidia so they wouldn't include good ATI drivers.

BTW is it an OGL or D3D game?

Athlon 64 3200+ stock speeds
6600gt
1GB Corsair PC3200 Ram

Shadows off, lighting medium, texture medium. Everything else on high.

Ran Fraps. Went thru 2 full 12 minute rounds. Averaged 55 fps. Definatley playable and feels smooth.

Thinking my memory might be my bottleneck and not my vid card. Not quite sure tho, but I will be getting 2GB to see if I can turn up textures to medium.

i am sure you'll all laugh, but this is what i'm running it on

athlon 64 3000+
512mb x 2 pc3200
ATI rs480 integrated video with 32mb sideport and 64mb UMA.

it runs on 800x600 on low. Its actually pretty decent. i've even played in 64 player maps.

i'm debating on if i like this game enough to get an x800xl for $250.

My frames are pretty good, around 50 most of the time. 32 player servers can drop them to high 30's, which is still pretty good. I would like some more horsepower to run AA all the time though, I hate jaggies. Looks like Ill be upgrading to a G70 or R520 this summer. I can run 1600x1200 with 4xAA with great frames, but I like WS better.

edit,

Of course change the res for whatever you want, and if your install path is different.

umm at that resolution (1600x1200) with any AA youd be thrashing the HD constantly in online games, it goes well over 1GB of memory usage.

It seems incredibly smooth, I havent run it with fraps but it feels like Im rarely getting a dip below 50 fps. Im pretty impressed overall. There is some major lag that happens occassionaly and when you first start the level sometimes its very choppy for about 5-10 seconds but after that it rolls without a hitch.

my 17 inch lcd displays 12x10 and i have the same problem. how do you set it to that?

All high
none (don't care that much)

p4 3.00ghz with HT
1 gb pc3200
6800gt BFG OC (370/1000)

game runs really smoothly and looks great except for the resolution makes it look jaggy on my lcd.
