If you don't mind cutting cable, maybe you could make your power supply modular in your own way.
I can't stand that extra crap that you're talking about, so I'll open 'em up and cut it all out.
This first pic has nothing to do with making a PSU modular; just something I got the urge to do.
In second pic, the cable zip-tied to the top of the case is the same cable that is brought out through the front top of the PSU. From that connector there at the top, you can then cut your own cable sized exactly how you like it.
Third pic is that cable powering the two optical drives.
This sort of thing no longer interests me. I wouldn't think of going through the trouble these days.
Long ago, I actually once de-soldered cable and removed it from inside a PSU. For some reason, when I put it back in the system it no longer worked. I wonder why that is?

edit to say that I guess I originally posted one of the pics twice. it's fixed now and makes more sense.
