Anyone got any tips on getting my credit reports mess cleaned up? Also, how long does it take for things to be removed through the dispute channels (for example, there's one account listed for me that was opened before I was born).

I've got things on my report that aren't mine, they belong to my parents (my father and I have the same first name & middle initial). These items are driving my credit rating(s) into the crapper b/c it shows me living well beyond my means.

Been there...done that.

You can clean it up pretty quick for the most part. The hard part is keeping it from reoccuring.

I had one account that became a real problem. I opened a Sears account when I was still living at home, and therefore had same address as my Dad's account. I closed it a few years later. My father's account became bad and Sears proceeded to place my SS# on his account because our name and address matched. If it were not for the fact that the account was opened in 1974 (I was 5), I would have had real problems. They took care of it and I forced them to send me a letter for my records. They did not apologize however. Changing information on accounts without proof should be 100% illegal.

Assuming FICO is the one that uses the 850 scale, mine was about 790. Which is pretty good cuz I checked it at age 26 and never had a home loan or car loan in my life.

Yeah, bringing up an old thread.

Where can I get a free credit score, delivered online easily?

I tried annualcreditreport.com.
Equifax won't send a report online, only by mail.
Transunion says I'm already in their database, which I didn't know. Trying to retrieve my password results in a "We are unable to assist you" error.
Experian will give an overview of my credit history, but they want money to send me my score.

Can you have a credit score if you haven't borrowed in 10-12 years?

You always have a credit score as long as you're alive. 885 is fake because the highest the FICO rating goes is 850.

Back on topic, I have ~775 or so the last time I did a pull.

Dude, you don't have any idea do you? I'm a finance manager at an auto dealership and I see people come in all of the time that don't have credit scores. No credit=no score. We call them ghosts. Also, I see a credit score over 850 about once a month. Your credit score is just the result of a mathematical formula. Theoretically, there are no limits, you could have a credit score of 2000, although I have no idea what it would take to get there. There is no floor, either. Twice I have seen credit scores that were in the 300's. For real world, though, the range is about 425-850. If anyone tells you there is a max or min, they don't really know......... also, 646, I have a wife that likes to spend quality time in the hospital.

Credit score over 850? Yes. FICO score over 850? No. That's like a 1700 on an SAT - 850 is the max FICO score possible.

You've probably seen some alternative credit score model/algorithm results.

You're right, I forgot that Experian uses an auto enhanced score (Fair Issac auto score 2) that emphasizes installment payments when scoring for an auto loan. The Experian FICO is in fact capped at 850, my mistake. You can still not have any score, though. Probably good to have everyone note which bureau they pulled their score from, Experian, Equifax or Transunion. I have seen score variances of up to 120 points between bureau scores, so just cuz you're a 609 on one bureau doesn't necessarily mean you don't have a 700 on one of the others. The whole system is so convoluted.... it's crazy.

FICO? Not really sure. Pulled a report through experian and paid for the "score" - it was a 533. I made mistakes when I was 17/18.

728 according to myfico.com. We're looking to buy a house soon, so we have their monitoring service to make sure nothing strange happens while we look for homes.

Mine is finally back up to a decent range, last I checked it was at 762.

Two years ago I had my identity stolen, and they guy bought 13 cars in my name, a bunch of cell phones, some fire arms, overdrew checking accounts, and signed me up for the Marines. He finally got caught and I'm still trying to clean up the mess he left. I might have it straigtened out by the time he gets out of jail if I'm lucky. I still get harassed when I get pulled over or go through customs because there's a few lingering warrants that I'm having trouble clearing up. At the lowest my credit hit 508.

Actually it's like getting a 2500 on the SAT. The SATs go up to 2400 now instead of 1600 if I'm not mistaken.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! I had been meaning to check my score.

My FICO score is now 795 from equifax. Three years ago it was in the crapper (670) do some large life changes and since then I've been dilligently doing everything I can to raise it.

This is great news indeed.
