This morning, I just posted in another thread recommending a fellow ATer not to focus on the gear just yet. I'm going to appear a hypocrite and ask you guys to post your gear. Just curious. Also, post what you are planning to get in a year or so.

Current:
Canon Digital Rebel XT
Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Sigma Super 70-300 F4-5.5 APO DG Macro
Canon 18-55 f3.5-5.6 (for sale!)
Canon 28-105 f3.5-4.5 II USM
Canon 50 f1.8
Sigma Flash EF500 DG Super
Crumpler bag (4 Million Dollar Home, I think)

In the near future, I want to get:
Canon EF 70-200 f4L USM - will be a graduation gift to myself
Canon 100mm Macro

Look into the IS version of that lens. I have it and love it. It's alot more money, but worth it IMO.

Canon Digital Rebel (300D... yeah... old)
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC
Canon 50mm f/1.8 MkII (might get rid of this... not sure yet... I used to have an MkI and didn't quite like the range.. but wanted to try it again)
Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM

Goal over the next year is to nab a 30D, Sigma 10-20, maybe a 100macro. Kinda want to play w/ a 135 f/2.8 SF (the L is far too expensive, heh).

Canon EOS-20D

EF-S 10-22 F3.5-4.5 USM
EF-S 17-55 F2.8 IS USM
EF 70-200 F4L IS USM

Speedlite 430EX

Future:

EOS-40D in early 2008 maybe? Would like to see Canon upgrade the firmware to "unlock" more features to make it more competitive with the Nikon D300.

I also want a good prime lens. What I want is a EF 50 F1.4 MkII USM, updated with new "digital" lens elements & coatings as well as ring-type USM like the EF 85 F1.8 USM.

Otherwise, I am very content with my current lens setup.

Future:
Macro lens (EF 60 f/2.8, EF 100 f2.8 macro)??
Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM
EX-430

I would like to get a 40D, but just got my XTi a few months ago. I would like to actually be in some pictures and everyone is afraid to use my camera!!

Future:
Some sort of higher zoom lens, such as the Canon 70-200 f/4L. Maybe I'll spring for the 70-200 f/4L IS or the f/2.8; which is better anyway, larger aperture or IS?
A flash, probably the SpeedLite 430.

Depends on what kind of subjects you'll be shooting the most. If your subject is going to be moving, then I would go for the one with the larger aperture. If not moving, then IS. If the subject is still, IS will give you 1 or 2 more stops over f/2.8, but if the subject is moving, then IS wont' do you any good, since it's only meant to dampen any effects of vibrations done onto the camera and not the subject.

Or if you can take out another mortgage, get both IS and f/2.8.

Thanks. I might end up springing for the f/4L IS if I have money burning a hole in my pocket. Lol.

Nikon D70
Nikon 17-55/2.8
Nikon 20/2.8 AIS
Nikon 50/1.4
Nikon 55/3.5 AI
Nikon 85/1.4
Nikon 105/2 DC
Nikon 180/2.8
Zeiss 35/2
Nikon SB-600 x2
Visatec Litepac
and a bunch of PWs, stands, clamps, and whatever else

Plan:

Buy Zeiss 50/1.4 and sell Nikon 50/1.4 sometime in the next couple weeks. Buy Vivitar 285's and sell SB-600's soon. Buy D3 (I'll probably be a guinea pig again). Sell 17-55/2.8 and buy 24-70/2.8 or 28-70/2.8 eventually. Buy Zeiss 25/2.8 and sell Nikon 20/2.8 somewhere down the road. Buy another Litepac if I can find a good deal or switch to Profoto if I can't.

I guess it's not as insane as my other plan, was seriously thinking of selling all my Nikon gear and getting an M8 a few weeks ago.

Funded by various gigs (I'm actually saying yes to work) and ramen.

For me, the decision was more about weight. The F4L IS is MUCH lighter than the 2.8L IS.

Canon 400D (Rebel XTi)

The kit lens EF-S 18-55mm
50mm F/1.8
EF 28-105mm F/3.5-4.5 USM MKI

Manfrotto 190BX ( i think thats it, not too sure, its a 190 something, not the one where you can bend the main stalk by 90 deg though)
umm the head is also manfrotto, not a ball head, was about £55. but whatever its a decent make and it pretty sturdy.

Hoya pro-digital CL-P filter and UV filter
Cokin P-series ND-4 filter with all the little bits to attach the filter to the front of the lens.

Plan:

get an ND-Grad

Sell the 28-105 when/if i can get hold of a Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 for a nice price.
really want the Sigma 10-20mm wide angle
a good fast telephoto with IS is something for the future because i really want to get into photography of swimming events and some of the pools i swim at can be over 25m wide and 50m long, also with them being indoors lighting isnt always that good.

also want to pick up a decent flash and a diffuser, as i will also be shooting at break dancing events. the cheapest way for me to do that was with the 50mm f/1.8 but even that lens isnt fast enough. the f1.4 might be but its more expensive and its DOF at that apeture is gonna mean my dancing subjects probably wont be partially infocus. so i think a diffused flash with some flash compesation adjustments might do the trick hopefully without harsh lighting like flashes normally do.

photography is damn expensive when you are a "penny-less" student. i say penny-less because actually ill have a good chunk of cash saved up before i finish my placement an go back to uni....but i dont really wanna spend it, need to keep it for other things like books, rent n stuffs.

in the mean time im selling every and anything i dont want, need or have a use for on ebay! this week its some good ol rambus RDRAM! seems pretty hard to come by and people seem to be getting decent money for the stuff.

might have to part with my venerable Radeon 9500Pro next

Oh. I wasn't even going to consider the 2.8L IS because of it being $500 more than the F4L IS and the 2.8L non-IS.

F4L IS is a great lens. You will not regret it.

just curios why did you pick the DO version of 70-300, I understand its smaller but doesn't it weigh the same as the non-do version of the lens, it costs twice as much as well

I had the "other" lens, and used it on a two week jaunt in the Amazon. I did not like it at all because it rattled. The barrel was not tight. I took it back to the dealer and all of them were that way.

I tried the DO version and it is a much better made lens. It is smaller and handier - a big plus when travelling, and has a very nice lock feature. I have used the DO now for over a year and love it. When I walk with the camera hanging on my neck, it doesn't jiggle/rattle.
