I -just- bought the Canon Powershot SD870 IS to replace my 4+-year-old Canon Powershot S400.

The S400 still works, but it's having trouble focusing sometimes, and it's just not very fast. (Hrm. Sounds like computers!) I'll regift it to a family member who will use it, so it'll continue to see action as well.

All in all, I'm very happy with my new camera, and I'm sure it's going to last me just as long as my last one did! =)

I use Kimwipes (can be purchased in a box) and my breath when I'm not out in the field.

When I'm in the field, I use a lens cleaning cloth and the vapor from my breath.

w00t, new push-pull Zoom-Nikkor AF 80-200mm f/2.8 came in today! My first impressions after five minutes with the lens:
- it's very heavy. my D50 is way too light, but I need $2k to buy a D300 to fix that problem, and that requires another job. in the meantime, I'll need to get very good with my handholding technique, and/or get a monopod for sports
- depth of field is absolutely tiny at f/2.8, and the screw-driven AF is slowww on my D50's meager in-camera autofocus motor. the AF limiters help, but it's not enough (though it would be on a D200 or better camera). I'll be practicing my manual focus technique a lot, and thankfully it's the push-pull version, so both are controlled by the same ring.

This lens is capable of much more than I am at this point in my growth as a photographer. It may be twenty years old, but it's a no-shit f/2.8 professional lens. I can't wait to get out and use it!

The actual product looks a lot better than the one on the animation. I showed it off last week to my friend and they all agreed that it is a good quality and functional carrying bag. Trust me!

What do you like about the bag compared with the Slingshot?

What do you like about the bag compared with the Slingshot?

The opening is very easy to open and the material is great especially with the great zipper.
The inside compartment is removable and adjustable. Actual pictures of the case looks a lot better in person. The swinging mechanism is similar to LowePRO. The best of all, I paid only $50 instead of $90 for the Lowespro 300AW

Good job! You got some nice gear there. I see you maybe wanting an UWA lens at some point like the EFS 10-22.

I would suggest conducting some sharpness tests...set your lenses at F2.8, put the camera on a tripod, turn IS off, and use the timer to take some pictures of objects at various focal lengths. Make sure you got good copies of those lenses. The 17-55 and 70-200 should be TACK sharp at 2.8. Remember, you have like 2 weeks with B&H to return/exchange so test the hell out of those lenses and use that grace period if you are not 100% satisfied. Unfortunately, even at those prices, sample variation is still common. Just make sure you got what you paid for.

A lot of people take "box" shots. Put the lens box with white/black text at one location and camera on a tripod a few feet away.

Pentax SMC DA 40 f/2.8 Limited. Yes, it's a pancake! I love this lens! Excellent build quality, miniscule in size and so sharp! Barely weighs anything..you dont even feel it's mounted on the camera.
My favourite lens as of now.

heh almost 100 posts and im still the only 1 with a 4x5 and at a quick glance the only one with a medium format camera, i figurered at least SOMEONE would still shoot film other then me
