X5670@4.9GHz on X58 Foxconn Bloodrage with Mushkin Redline 1634MHz 6-7-6-20-1T

Seems I never posted the 3930K results to this thread, have to see if I can find that screenshot.

BTW Klown, your digital hoarder edition is old (well, even older). I noticed this when wondering why my score trounced yours so badly. You're only running 8 threads. The last version enabled more threads.

As far as I can find, the 4.2 version I have is the latest. I've run the program as Administrator and with various compatibility modes but it does not budge. I can manually type in 12 threads, but it'll pop up an error before running on 8 threads.

Version I have shows 4.3, under file properties it's actually 4.3.2.0.

Many thanks to both YBS1 and Burpo for pointing me to the newest version. Here is my 4930K at 4500MHz, and the extra 4 threads made quite a difference.

This is my craptastic work PC I built about 4 years ago (still using) with a budget of about $350

Wow that's pretty embarrassing for AMD.
Why do you say that?
His Fritz chess benchmark results are unusually low for FX8350 @ 4.2Ghz.
Take a look here:
http://www.hardware.fr/articles/897-20/cpu-ia-echecs-houdini-fritz.html

FX8350@ Stock : 13065pts
3770K @ stock : 13989pts
4670K @ stock : 11780pts
4770K @ stock: 14480pts

As can be seen from above, 8 thread 8350 is ~10% slower than 8 thread 4770K and 6.7% slower than 8 thread 3770K. That's pretty close score to both intel chips. Also 8350 is 10% faster than 4670K to which it's comparable price-wise.

Not embarrassing since the FX-8350 only cost $125 brand new. Not only that, but you had to take a locked 45nm C2Q to 4GHz, which means the motherboard spent to get it was likely VERY expensive as well. My motherboard? $55. It blows the pants off my Q8200 @2.8GHz that I just upgraded from.

I suspect a little bit of core throttling (cheap 970 biostar mobo), as my scores for 6 threads was a relative speed of 23.3.

An advertised 8 core chip having almost the same clock for clock performance as a quad core from 7 years ago isn't embarrassing?

20% is not exactly "almost" the same, ask your employer to raise your salary by 20% and explain him that it s almost the same...

Except it's 15%, and the AMD is clocked 5% higher, so clock for clock a 10% increase. I'd say that's "almost" the same compared with twice the cores and being 7 years ahead.

With 8 core loaded frequency of a 8350 is 4.0 Ghz, besides Fritz is old and not updated for recent uarch but rather for CPUs like yours, check Hardware.fr Haswell-E review, they use more recent chess softs, the second one, Houdini 4, has optimisations for both brands with two different files, i doubt that your CPU would keep up :

Yeah, I too do not get the "embarrassing" quip given that regardless the time frame involved (be it 6 months or 6 years) the fact is AMD is the second and only other company to produce a product that is capable of performing at that level.

This whole notion that a product is worthless, or the company and its employees are rubbish, if it (they) come in second place on the basis of arbitrary metrics (be it years until reaching performance parity, or power consumption, or performance per core, or performance per clock, or performance per dollar, etc) is really quite a needless stance to take on the debate.

Show me the results from the third runner-up, and then we can debate the relevance of the second-place holder. If all you got is a first and second place then it is time to simply be thankful that there is a even second-place contender in the first place.

I think people just expect more from AMD because of how good they were with k7-k8, but this is OT, I'll edit the post later with some Fritz Chess result

edit: download link is broken,
