I remember playing Simcity on that also...but the game I played the most on that was Dune(haha Atreides & spice harvesting FTW!!!). Ahhh...good times

Dune was the sh!t. Glad there are still people who remember it. I still have memories of that god damn rat Radnor giving me useless advice on what to do with my units

hehehe...i always kicked ass using the Harkonnen. I loved that game. I don't enjoy RTS's like I used to. Warcraft 3 was the last I played a lot.

Haha, I had it in my 486 DX 66MHz, 4mb ram, 130mb hard drive, 3 1/2 inch & 5 1/4 inch floppy drives (5 1/4 inch drives are REAL floppy disks ) and that computer was bought for $2500...mymy...how times have changed. A question...was Dune the beginning of RTS games??

In the UK, the genre's beginning can be traced to Stonkers by John Gibson, published in 1983 by Imagine Software for the ZX Spectrum, and Nether Earth published on ZX Spectrum in 1987. In North America, the first game retrospectively classified as real-time strategy by most sources[2] is The Ancient Art of War (1984), designed by Evryware's Dave Murry and Barry Murry (published by Brøderbund), followed by the sequel The Ancient Art of War at Sea in 1987. Some writers ([6], [7]) list Intellivision's Utopia by Don Daglow (1982) as the first real-time strategy game (although it was a mix of turn based and real-time gameplay), but what is considered to be real-time strategy gameplay is a secondary component of the game, and it is more properly classified as the first sim game or god game.

Source (Wiki)

Dune was however the game that gave RTS recognition as a genre.

I have K6-2+'s and K6-3+'s running Voodoo 2 SLI and a Voodoo 3 3000.

I also have a 233MMX with a PCI Banshee in it, and a lowely 386DX40 with a ISA Trident TVGA 9000C in it.

stashed away in my parts boxes I have ISA, VLB and PCI Tridents, Tseng labs, S3 and Cirrus logics as well as many other things, like my more modern stuff like TNT2's, GF2's, GF3's GF4's and ATI's from Rage 2c up to 9000 pro's...I will use most of it one day.

My Favorites that I've owned over the past 15 years or so are as follows.

Trident TVGA 9000C 512kb , that gave me my first decent VGA on my old 386DX

Diamond S3 805 VLB 1MB, it was built in to the mobo of my Osborne 486SX with an Overdrive socket, that rig kicked ass once I added a Hyperace Am5x86 133 overdrive chip to it, it used to run Quake pretty good.

Creative 3D BLASTER VLB 4MB....see rig above, Vquake was a blast...and none of my friends had true 3D acceleration in their early Pentium rigs.

My trusty Powercolor Voodoo 2 SLI, it made my K6-2 400 in to a real power house, it used to pull over 60FPS in Q2 at an awesome 1024x768, I still have this rig, and it ocassionally gets a work out.

3DFX Voodoo 5 5500, that worked pretty good in my K6-3+ 550 rig, I choose it over a GF2 GTS because of power issues with my GA-5AA motherboard...I discovered later on that a GF2 GTS would work if I set the mobo up for AGP 1x which seemed to solve all of the AGP power issues.

GF3 TI200@TI500, that card was awesome in my Athlon T-bird 1.4ghz....it ran RTCW and UT2003 with no problems at all..I wish I still had that setup in my collection.

Radeon 9700PRO....what other video card would last 3+ years with out the need for an upgrade, I still have that in my AXP 3000+ server, runs just as good as the day I bought it in late 2002.

GF6800GT, it's not that old but it's done the job up until last week when I replaced it with a BFG 7800GS...now it's gets a run in my P4 3.45ghz rig.

BFG 7800GS@550/1350 what can I say I'm really impressed with this card, it gets over 15300 in 3DMark03 and 7500 in 2005....runs FEAR XP and prey pretty good....with most details set to high.

mine is going to be long. i even used to sell video cards. so i'm just gonna list stuff that i've used for more than say 2 weeks.

i've had the following.

my first computer has a s3 trio64 with 1mb (i bought the SOJ chips to upgrade to 2mb) ... i was like 14 when i got this.
got a free sample video card through my dad's oem contacts ... ati 3dxpression 4mb or something. ati rage2+ with tv out!
they threw in a free monster 3d voodoo1 that was used for comdex demos... later one!!! w00t! by now i had a k6-200 ES as my main desktop.

anyhow, didnt get much for a while, i think i got an stb blackmagic voodoo2 12mb towards the end of high school.
after that was when it got crazy

had a riva 128 and the stb 12mb voodoo , then upgraded to riva tnt. then voodoo3 2000, then 3000.

then with more upgrades got it up to a vooodoo5 5500 which i sold since i was a starving college kid. then downgraded to a voodoo4 4500. had a geforce 256 at some point, but the 2d quality at the time suckedballs. so after 3dfx died i swapped to a radeon LE . had a rage128GL at some point but the drivers were awful.

after that i didnt upgrade so much even though i was a "dealer" here sellnig geforce 256 geroce2 and tnt2 cards. gamed less at this point, so i think i had a gf2mx for a while, and then a gf4mx440. had a ti4200 gf4 for a bit. after that mostly stayed with nvidia (better linux support) and had a geforce 5600, fx5900 , 6600, 6800 7600gs, 7600gt, 7900gs for a bit, 7900gt. i beleive at some point i used integrated radeon xpress 200 , and a radeon x800xl as well.

and guess whta i have now/... integrade intel video. i just play my xbox 360 , i guess i've outgrown pc gaming or im just too busy. and im 25 now. an 11 year history.

1) Voodoo Rush by Intergraph
2) Riva TNT2 by STB
3) Geforce 256 Pro by Hercules
4) Geforce 2 by Creative Labs
5) Geforce 3 Ti 500 by ???
6) ATI Radeon 9600 Pro by ATI
7) Geforce 7800 GTX by MSI

I have purchased most of my cards from nVidia. I didn't consider ATI to be worthy of my money, pre 9700 Pro days. However, now the tides have changed. I prefer ATI products now, even though my last purchase was still an nVidia 7800 GTX. Where is my money going next? Not entirely sure, but I am pretty sure ATI will get my money, but who knows... If the R600 doesn't perform, then....
