Everyone brags or at least talks about the lastest, baddest and shiniest piece of silicon that they are currently using. How about people still using ice age old tech!??
Post your oldest CPU setup that is still your daily/main PC being used. Here's mine.

8 year old E6600 (Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4MB Cache) Stock speed because each time my mobo loses power from a power cut all my BIOS settings get erased

Its getting a bit of a drag even surfing websites nowadays (especially FB with many tabs) with the CPU usage 50-100%....

You will likely fix that bios reset issue by replacing the motherboard's battery. CR-2032 button cell is what you're after. Go to Radio Shack.

I still have an E-6550 but it is a secondary computer. Slightly inferior to your E6600 @ 2.33Ghz.

Right Larry. I had a look and most are talking about PCs still booting and stuff. Here I specifically meant PCs being used on a daily basis as main PC. If that's a duplicate thread, mods can either close/merge it.

Two functioning desktops in my home in the process of replacing. Pentium 4 660 at 3.6 ghz (I think) in Dell x600. Also replacing a c2d 6300 1.86ghz on an Abit AB9 board.

Laptops I am looking to replace. Dell D800, 8600, and B130. All Pentium M.

my Athlon 64 X2 4000+ is still being used every day in my house (but not by me) for web browsing/ms office, running win 8.1 x64, it's actually newer than the e6600 by some months (it's the 65nm AM2 version, I got it in 2007) I think, it's... OK, not as slow as one could expect for basic tasks, considering it's also running a Samsung HD from 2007, and the IGP is the Geforce 6100... I think it plays 720P youtube OK with no GPU acceleration, the motherboard is the same cheap Asrock I got back in 2007, this board since new was kind of bad, it only had 20 pin ATX connection when every other board had 24 pin, and since new it was problematic for rebooting and with cool n quiet (memory clocks goes to high when it changes the CPU clock and causes the system to crash unless I use the 533 divider), also the onboard audio died back in 2009 I think (apart from the audio it's working as good as it did when new), power usage was a concern, but with CNQ when I measured it was around 40-50W idle, and under extreme load it was not to close to 150W, so I'm probably only going to replace when the PC finally dies

My dad is still running his A64 3200+ with 2GB and XP. I can't tell you how many thumb drives that I've given him with Xubuntu to try. He just refuses. I'm going to set him up with with either a Chromebox or a NUC for Christmas.

I'm still running an i7 920 @ 3.8. It's not slow for me; I'm just tired of having it. I'm quite bored with a computer for the first time since 1990-ish. I can only think of one reason to upgrade. Video encoding, but I usually set that to happen while I'm doing other stuff.

My file server is a P4 3.4 running Ubuntu 12.04 with a random hodge-podge of HDs in it and whatever RAM I had that would work. It's currently out of commission because the no-name PSU blew up a little while ago. I should fix that.

Replace that 920 with an x5650, available on eBay for like $65 shipped. Step up to 6C/12T goodness on the cheap. Should also run noticeably cooler/quieter due to 32nm construction, also should provide better OC potential.

I've been following that thread for a while. Maybe for my birthday in November, I'll end up with an SSD and 5650. A cooler chip would be a big bonus. My fear is that once I tear into it, I'll end up re-doing my loop and spending almost enough money to move to Haswell-K.

I suppose the other option is slap a 5650 in it, give it to Dad and move to X99. Either way, I'll need a new case, he doesn't like how big the HAF 932 is. These days I don't either.

DESK: i5 2500K, Giga Z68MA-D2H-B3, 212+ P/P, M5Pro 256GB, 2TB Seagate, 2x 4GB Samsung RAM, EVGA 760SC ACX, Corsair TX750v2, Fractal Define Mini, W7

...yaa, I know it's not that old.

The oldest I have in use is a '07 Dell 1501 laptop with a AMD Turion 64x2 (TL-64; ) I have upgraded it quite a bit... the faster processor, 2x2GB RAM, 128GB M500, and W7. It still gets along pretty good... the RAM and SSD really helped it remain useable.

The oldest cpu in this house is an i5-2400 used by the wife. However, I do have a friend's daughter who uses my old athlon 64 3700+. My parent-in-laws however still use an sempron 2400. I want to throw that thing into a volcano every time they ask me to fix it.

I still have a pencil modded overclocked Athlon XP with 1.5GB of RAM on an Abit NF2 board, works fine with Windows XP. The on board sound still sounds better than many new on board sound controllers. I only really fire it up for older classic PC games. It's paired up with a Radeon 9700 Pro. Even has 2 SATA ports, I wonder how fast it would feel if I add a cheap SSD?

I actually run a Pentium II 350 Mhz machine with a 3DFX Voodoo 3 for old glide games / dos games.

My grandparents are also still running an 800 Mhz Via C3 with 512 MB of Ram and Windows XP. I tried to upgrade them -- but they "don't want learn a new computer."

Well the oldest thing I run is a PhII X4 940. I just love upgrading too much. But the ol' Phenom does a great job in my office PC.

I remember when Abit was a top player and fizzled out quickly after this time period.

I work on an E4600 from 2007 I think. Last year I asked for a memory upgrade, from 2GB to either 4, 6, or 8. The company balked and bought me a new machine with an i5-3570.

I unpacked the new machine and made sure it worked, but decided I really didn't care to switch machines. Here I am, a year later, the new machine gathering dust, and I still don't have a memory upgrade for the E4600.

The newer Windows versions are allowing older hardware to last longer. If your hardware ran Vista worth a hoot, 7 and 8 will be even less demanding.

Oldest current CPU is an Athlon II X2 250.

We had Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.9Ghz) in use up until a couple months ago. Had an old 80GB IDE HDD and ran Windows 7 just fine. Flash games peaked it at around 100% usage though and people were complaining that it felt like a space heater underneath the desk. Ended up replacing it with an Athlon II X2 250 which was a little faster and much cooler.

The motherboard for the 5600+ ended up getting fried when a screw fell behind the mobo tray and shorted something, otherwise I probably would have used it for a file server.
