3dmark2001 sux so lets use quake 3. they got the new patch out 1.29f which supports the demo this time. just drop down console and type /timedemo 1 and goto demos and play the demo thats there...plz post your rig and the fps you get, i get around 140-144 fps on my system which seems about right, i guess...

On ra3map1 with my Athlon 1.1 and GF2 Pro, I see framerates of 250-350 with the settings I use: 800x600, r_picmip 5, 16-bit, low textures.

GF3 at 230/530 Athlon 1.3 @ 1.466

Everything on highest setting. 115.5fps in 1280x1024 no fsaa

60ish fps at 1152x864 with all the bells and whistles turned on (except fsaa)

i think this was 1.27 tho

do the different versions get different fps? i have v1.11 and i downloaded the 1.27f patch but it doesn't work. how different could the fps be between v1.11 and v1.27f?

Well, my MX sweats like a pig when you throw 32bit at it I lose around 60% FPS. Also quake3 runs optimal @ 125FPS, so I cap it n e way.

I guess the SDR doesn't have the bandwidth for 32bit? That would make sense. But 60% decrease? That's seems very odd.

Some will argue that anything above 60fps is a waste. I personally disagree. I can certainly tell when my average is less than 90 fps. But 125? I dunno if anyone alive could tell the difference between 90 and 125fps..

You might not, but the quake engine does. You can actually do more jumps and hence, move faster and further. Why should you beleave me, because I'm a division 1 UK 'proffessional' player and have read alot about the 125 'magic number'.

And its 60% because its SDR and I have it on FULL details, the MX isn't made for 32bit because it lacks DDR.

maxhdwdotcom, got any links to support your claim? I'm very curious, I've been playing for a while myself, but I've never heard anything about 125fps anything in Q3... Love to read up on it though.

Wingznut PEZ why are you getting less the same fps in 640x480 as you are in 1280x1024? I understand NV15 is all geometry but I would think the split would be even wider than that. *confused*

Ack,...that is confusing. What I meant to say was, why are you getting the same framerate in 1280x1024 and 640x480 on map NV15? I would thinmk the framerate difference would be much wider than .5fps.

Is that map immune to resolution differences?

Radeon LE (185/185), 700mhz duron @ 784 mhz, 128 ram; i get about 90 fps in 1280x1024 everything max, 32 bit color, vertex lighting, full tecture quaality,etc....
