I'm mostly an iPhone user, but I have had some Android and even Windows phones on the side:

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4s
Galaxy Nexus
iPhone 5
Lumia 1020
Nexus 5
iPhone 6
iPhone 7
Essential Phone
iPhone XS
iPhone 13 Pro (more on this when I'm ready)

I've also had significant time with many other phones on the side, including BlackBerrys and the Palm Pre/Pixi. I should probably snag a reference Android phone when I can, most likely a Pixel a-series, but marriage and a new household have made secondary phones a true luxury for the short term!

Motorola Droid X
Samsung S3 (16 GB)
Motorola X Pure (64 GB)
Motorola G Power (64 GB)

The first Motorola Droid X was not very good in comparison to the last 3 (very early Android). I tend to keep my phones for 3-4 years until the battery craps out, or they just become too slow to run the current software.

The cool part of the Droid X and Samsung S3 was that they have cheap, user replaceable batteries. I was able to squeeze a longer life out of them as the battery technology was not as good as present day.

As technology has evolved the Moto G Power (current phone, which I have had for over a year) is far and away the best of the bunch. The battery lasts for 3-4 days without recharging (even after a year plus of ownership), and it does anything/everything I could ask for in a phone that was under $200.

Motorola Moto G (locked Boost Mobile version).

Samsung Galaxy J2 16 GB.

Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 128GB.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G 128GB.

Finally(arriving by April 8th,2022) Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 256GB.

(The S22 Ultra 256GB is replacing both my Note 20 128GB,and my older Note 9 128GB.)

I'm trading in both of the Notes(9 and 20) to get back some of the money that I spent on the S22 Ultra.

($489 for the S22 Ultra, after the trade-in discounts from the Note 9 and Note 20).

My main phones have been iPhones:

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5
iPhone 6
iPhone 7
iPhone XS
iPhone 13 Pro

However, I've had multiple Android phones on the side, including the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5, Essential Phone and now a Pixel 6. I'm not a frequent phone collector these days, but it's good to use both major platforms so that I can speak from experience.

Was on cheap plans and junk phones longer than most. Liked the Samsung A900 Blade. Kinda wish I'd bought a better phone sooner, mostly for picture quality.

The first bar style smart phone 📱 in the family was the Moto-G.

We stayed on cheap phones until just few years ago when we went all in with T-MOBILE and canceled cable internet. We got Samsung Galaxy S8s for $200 each and used them for everything. We hooked em up in place of our TV and in place of our computers using a cool device called a DeX.

We are on S10s now

i upgrade when my bank + brokerage apps no longer accept the Android version.
ie: Android 7 (Moto e4) in 2020

So i got a Moto Action One (Android 10) for ~$80.

So when Android 13 is out, it's time for me to be on the lookout for a cheap phone. (When Android 14 is out, some of my bank/brokerage apps will no longer support Android 10)

So, I have spent $600 on phones in the last 8 years.
Wow, that's a bit reeckless.

Hahaha...haaaaa...*hides depleted wallet*

HTC Thunderbolt
Samsung Galaxy S4
LG V10
iPhone 7
Samsung Galaxy S8
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
Samsung Galaxy S10e
Samsung Galaxy Note 20
Samsung Galaxy S21
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

I honestly miss the thunderbolt days. I had it rooted and the bootloader was unlocked so I could run custom ROMs. I had Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) before the normies on Verizon did. I had my S4 rooted....and after that I haven't really "modded" phones.

I went with a LG V10 that year because it used the Snapdragon 808, which didn't have the thermal issues of the flagship 810.

Firguing that I didn't care anymore about customizing phones, I went with Apple. My iPhone 7's radio died a month outside of warranty, leaving me with a very expensive wifi only device. Apple wanted to charge me $400 to give me another iPhone 7. Thanks but no thanks.

I only had the S8 for a short period of time due to changing phone plans. It was like 3 weeks or less. I then used a Sub $100 off the shelves of Target GoPhone style smart phone. It was really rough around the edges, but it did everything I needed it too...just with terrible storage space and camera quality. Forget the name of it though.

And since I got the Galaxy S9+, I've been upgrading on a near yearly cycle with Samsung. I always trade-in; I don't pay a whole lot, and I usually get some cool perks alongside it. I qualify for one of their special discount programs as well. I justify it as something I like....I use my phone a lot. It's frustrating to use something that you hate multiple times a day every day.
