Not maximum speed of service, just maximum speed of onboard nic.
service speed is 2gbit down 1gbit up.
Not bad for a personal home connection
how much do you pay for that?
It's normally priced at 4,743 yen per month (about $46), but I signed up through an agent while out shopping and they basically set me up to pay only 3,200 yen.
So, about $31 a month, or £18.62
New house already had fibre to the home, so they waived the $400 installation fees too
and this is how badly outclassed the US is for internet. I have what would be considered one of the best connections you can get in the US, outside of google fibre. I pay ~$80/month for 75Mbps (upload and download). If you can pay 1/2 as much for literally 30x the speed, that is just sad and shows how far behind the us is falling in internet speeds.
I am not sure if there is anywhere in the country that offers 2gbps/1gbps for anything under a few hundred to a few thousand $ per month depending where you are. Google fibre is probably our closest comparison at ~$100/month for 1Gbps/1Gbps, but it's only available in 3 cities at the moment.
I think it's a case of density really, Nuro is only really feasible in Tokyo and very close proximity, so in many ways a lot like the google fibre rollout, it's just accessible to more users because Tokyo is a much denser area.
I have no doubt if they actually allowed it, google fibre could do 2gbit and beyond as it uses the same system as nuro, GPON.
When you reach these speeds though, availability to ordinary end users starts to drop off rapidly in functionality.
My router can provide 2gbit for example, but i can only use 1gbit of it at any given time, then, unless im saving directly to ssd, and not the larger more suited hdd's, you hit the limitation on speed based on how fast the hdd will write the data its downloading, highlighted by steam downloading at an average of 80mb/sec to ssd but 54mb/s to mechanical.
If I had a choice between paying a set amount for 1gbit and half said amount for 500mbit, i would without question opt for 500mbit.
Got an upgrade from comcast today, up to 60 mb/sec at home. For as shitty a company as they are, I must say Im pleased with their internet.
At speeds exceeding 1000Mbps, the speedtest app cannot guarantee accurate results.
So are you telling me that you get more than 1000mbps?
