This isn't about Google Fiber but more about 1Gbps in general.
The techs in my area say they're having a hard time proving to people that they have gigabit. Their computers just arent fast enough for the most part. Seems to top out between 200-300Mbps or so. And that's wired. I was told they spent a good day cleaning up one customers computer. Clearing it of stray services and spyware. They managed to hit about 800Mbps on it. A week later, the same machine is testing back in the 200Mbps range.
I just found that very interesting. I told them that they'd find plenty of machines in my house capable of hitting 1Gbps but found that my neighborhood is pretty low on the list. I might get it by the end of the year, but more likely Jan/Feb. Man, I can wait to let my SAB/SickBeard combo go crazy on that connection.
