Run OSX's wireless diagnotics, windows, utilities, do a wifi scan. See if you're on the same 2.4 channel as other networks. 2.4 should be slower, but not that much slower...

I tried that but I couldn't get to the menu with all the different option thing

Through my phone over wifi fairly near the access point.

Though my upload is actually 30mbps so not sure how accurate the mobile version is... it seems to always overshoot the upload. Download is pretty much dead on though, it's 50mbps but I always get slightly below that.

Fios, basic 25\5
If you want you could probably get that changed to 25/25. Fios recently upped the upload speed for every package. Yours will be automatically upped eventually, but you can force the change by" upgrading" to the same priced package as you pay now. Won't really effect you unless you do a decent bit of high bandwidth uploading though.

Yay VDSL?

After my speed upgrade. That faster upload rate makes a big difference.

This isn't about Google Fiber but more about 1Gbps in general.

The techs in my area say they're having a hard time proving to people that they have gigabit. Their computers just arent fast enough for the most part. Seems to top out between 200-300Mbps or so. And that's wired. I was told they spent a good day cleaning up one customers computer. Clearing it of stray services and spyware. They managed to hit about 800Mbps on it. A week later, the same machine is testing back in the 200Mbps range.

I just found that very interesting. I told them that they'd find plenty of machines in my house capable of hitting 1Gbps but found that my neighborhood is pretty low on the list. I might get it by the end of the year, but more likely Jan/Feb. Man, I can wait to let my SAB/SickBeard combo go crazy on that connection.

I can't even think of what could cause that level of slow down on the NIC. Unless it's a problem with the NIC itself, but not really sure how cleaning up software programs would see a 4x increase in speed, which then went back down to 200mbps just days later. That sounds like BS. OR a hardware issue.

If the modem/router is 1gbps, and the NIC for your computer is 1gbps, should easily see 800mbps+ Minimally should be seeing 600-700Mbps unless the ISP is the one with the congestion.
