I can't even think of what could cause that level of slow down on the NIC. Unless it's a problem with the NIC itself, but not really sure how cleaning up software programs would see a 4x increase in speed, which then went back down to 200mbps just days later. That sounds like BS. OR a hardware issue.

If the modem/router is 1gbps, and the NIC for your computer is 1gbps, should easily see 800mbps+ Minimally should be seeing 600-700Mbps unless the ISP is the one with the congestion.

I don't have too many details because I didn't get a chance to hang out as much as I'd like. I also don't know how many of these computers were tried wireless vs wired and most people's wireless connections are shit.

I'm throttled on AT&T Unlimited right now. One run was on HSPA+ "4G" and the other was on LTE (forced it to LTE using Advanced Signal Status for Android).

Eh, to be fair though, that test is a bit bullshit as I bet you 99% of the websites you visit are not being hosted in Hawaii. Do speed test to a san diego server or something to see a more realistic result.

True I expect those numbers to drop and that ping to hit double digits once you touch something hosted in america.

So I called TWC the other day after my internet went out twice in a couple of minutes. They apologized. Next thing you know, my bill went from $39.99/month to $19.99. I think that is only for one month. The other thing that happened was my internet speed went from 15mb/s to 54mb/s. anyone know if this is permanent? It'd be nice but i don't think I could take advantage of it. I care more about consistency and latency than speed.

I'm kinda jelly of you guys that get gigabit, but honestly I'm happy with mine...



Gigabit would be awesome if they actually allowed servers and stuff but most ISPs don't. Once you hit a certain point that speed is kinda wasted for residential if you can't use it to serve stuff. Awesome for doing backups and stuff like that though. Torrents too I imagine.

My test is also not that accurate since I have stuff that uses bandwidth in the background like an ADS-B receiver that feeds to flight tracking sites.

I pay for 200/10, recently increased from 150/10. A little weak on the upload, but there's no selection here. It's Comcast or 12 mbit down from a shitty alternative provider.
