Nobody can beat the class that is dodge caravan

Don't have any pics of my miata dash

One good thing about Chrysler is that they were always generous with gauges.
and I just noticed your stock tach is pinned at 3 grand, there appears to be another tach top left of the cluster at ~5800? With no oil pressure or voltage?

Liking the GLH interior there HarryLui.

I don't have a picture of mine, but a quick search turned up a great low-res picture of one:

The orginal tach still works. The needle just goes to a random place when you turn the car off. The other tach I assume is my EGT, exhaust gas temp gauge.

From back when digital dashboards were something you found in luxobarges:

Not my car - mine has the compass which gives you directional info between the temperature and fuel gauges. Given the warning lights I'm assuming the car isn't running, but he's also got the transmission in second gear so who knows?

I'm lazy so here are some photos I found, in order of oldest to newest:

Thanks, I looked for a pic but couldn't find a good one. I like it, pretty easy to read, looks nice enough, and the green lighting at night is easy on the eyes

Rev limiter @ 6k? Sounds low for a G8

GTO stock is 6600 and it can be upped to 7k w/ beefier valve springs.

It's because of the junk AFM lifters they have it so low. Which sucks, because the AFM negligibly improves gas mileage - 1mpg at best. I have the rev limiter bumped up to 6300rpm on mine, and shut off the AFM because it's on and off unless you're driving on a totally flat road, but I really need to swap the cam out and get rid of the junk lifters.

AMD Hunter - what kind of car is that?

Mine matches Red Rooster except without PND lights

I don't like the bottom of a cup look either. Some cars seem to overdo it and limit your sight if you move your head. For other manufacturers - like my Mazda - it looks like a cup from the extreme side - but the depth in the middle is minimal so it basically never blocks the view of the driver. I guess it is just the style now, so everone wants it. I'd prefer the simple flat area with clear gauges.

We all forget the importance of having a cool instrument cluster when purchasing a vehicle. When making a decision on buying a car, you should always take into consideration how cool the tach looks; it should be up there with safety and gas mileage IMO.

What really surprises me about instrument panels is that so many fail to give volt and oil pressure gauges. Despite wanting a "cool" looking tach, I'd think one would want vital engine information displayed. But seeing so many dashes without voltmeters or oil pressure gauges, I guess most don't want to know.

Most have not idea what volt # or oil pressure # means. They don't understand the oil pressure # will varies according to the engine rpm, all they see is a gauge that moves up and down, and something must be wrong. Nor if they know what the correct voltage when the engine is running or not running.

Thus, idiot lights works well for them.

Here's mine; the passenger can't see anything. (stock photo, z4 m)

I cannot stand those big 'cones' that cover the displays. Mazda has these now as well. Annoying and ugly IMHO.

The guages look nice (don't get me wrong) it's the bubbles around them that ruin it for me.

Well no, most people really don't care long as the car works. Thus the 'check engine' light came about as a simple way of saying, yes there is a problem with the vehicle. I do however think it would be nice if on the cars with information read outs that it would try and give you a basic reason for why the light came on like 'low oil pressure' or etc.

lolol, I do not miss the spedometer on my 06 Civic. Everyone and their mother can see how fast you are going, even other drivers. It was annoying as hell...lol

i liked pacing cars with those big ass speedos. thats how i found out my trucks speedo was off, and on my motorcycle, the speedo needle is melted and curves to the right. nice to be able to speed check while on the freeway.

i dont have any pics of my current vehicles gauge clusters. they are both pretty utilitarian tho. the truck does have a ton of info on old needle gauges, only digital readout is the odometer. the civic is all mechanical.

Yeah gauges have seen to gone away for the most part, would be nice if they were still offered as an option though. The 08 G8's had the now infamous "atari" gauge display that did oil pressure and voltage, but it got so much ridicule that they did away with it for the 09 and 09.5's and just left us with a pretty much useless mini-shelf in it's place. Holden offers a triple gauge pod on Commodore's that looks much better, but is a pricey retrofit (a bit over $1,000 D to piece together since you have to swap out most of the center stack trim pieces.

Every choice GM North America made with these cars was for the worse IMO, I mean god forbid they left out the totally non-functional hood scoops (which were never on the Commodores until after the G8 was axed) instead of cutting every other corner they could. Pic below is with the red/black interior combo vs the all black I posted earlier, but you get the idea.
