Not too many for me. I could not name the video cards I had in my systems prior to my circa 1999 Pentium III. I know I consciously made the choice not to purchase a Riva TNT, so the first one I'll list is right around when the term "GPU" became popularized (Geforce 256 era).

Creative nVidia Geforce 256 Ultra AGP (32MB)
3dfx Voodoo2 PCI (12MB)
ATI Radeon 9800 XT AGP (256MB)
Sapphire Radeon X1950XT PCI-E (512MB)
Sapphire Radeon HD4870 PCI-E (1GB)
MSI Geforce GTX560Ti PCI-E (1GB)

I don't know what were in my family's PCs from the 80s, my father wouldn't let me open them up.

I don't recall my next ones beyond them being
S3
3DFX

ATI Rage Pro 2 4mb AGP 2x IGP with duel 56k pipelines.
EVGA FX 5200 256mb PCI (newb mistake)
EVGA FX 5400 128mb PCI (Gift)
ATI x300 SE 128mb PCI-Ex 1.0
Sapphire x1950 Pro 512mb PCI-Ex 1.0
Sapphire HD 4670 1GB DDR3
Sapphire HD 6970 2GB DDR5

I also have a AGP TNT2 Pro floating around that I took from a hand me down PC. Someone walked off with my Matrox card.

I have had every highend card out, well probably 75% percent of them since the first 3dfx cards.

Riva TNT2 -> ??? (fell out of the loop - but mostly Intel GMAs) -> FX 5200 -> GTX 280 (current) -> likely HD6950/6970CF, hopefully in the next 8 - 10 weeks.

Geforce 8800 GT for the last 3.5 years. Still manages to play modern games (albeit, not at max settings but still looks good enough for me). SC2 runs great on it as did ME2/DAO.

Funny how a couple of people started by listing video accelerators as video cards.

My first Frankenstein had a Matrox Millenium II plus an Orchid Voodoo Graphics card.
Next was a Matrox Marvel G200 plus Diamond Voodoo II in SLI.

After that, my list is a little longer than nitromullet's, but minus ATi.

I dont remember them all.

The one I remember pretty well was a elsa award winner something.
I traded some guy a 56k us robotics external modem for it from a old forum. voodoo 3d? for my 300a celery system. That card rocked!

From the looks of ALL these lists... I can come to the conclusion that the GPU industry is not much affected by the economy?! Including several recessions from the looks of the model numbers of the cards I see on all the lists! Correct me if my opinion is wrong...

Who has had the largest performance increase from one card to another? I went from a Radeon 9600XT 256mb to a GeForce 8800GTS 640. The GeForce was ridiculously fast compared to the Radeon. I think it was 3 generations ahead.

Riva TNT 2 -> GF4 ti4200 (I bought that GF2 MX at the same time as the GF4 for a second machine) was probably my biggest "wow" moment.
