Wow, looking at some of these lists was I the only one stupid enough to upgrade multiple times within the same generations? Haha.

EDIT: Card's I kept. I did buy/rent a Voodoo 3 during waiting for my 9700 to arrive, and I had a Voodoo 5 at some point for like a week, but ATI had my heart. haha.

<got a job as a kid, mother didn't teach me how to save >
ATI Rage 3D - my first dedicated GPU
ATI Rage Pro - my first AGP card
3dFX Voodoo 2 8MB
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI
ATI Radeon 7000 AIW AGP
ATI Radeon 8500 AGP
ATI Radeon 9200 AIW AGP
ATI Radeon 9500 -> Soft mod to Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 -> Soft mod to Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (my first OC'ed card)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT AIW
ATI Radeon X850 XT PE
<Got a girl friend so suddenly drought of new hardware haha.>
ATI Radeon X1950 XT
ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS SLI
ATI Radeon HD 4870x2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (4870x2 got destroyed by water along with half my rig )
ATI Radeon HD 5870 2GB

At this point in my life bills, mortgages, car payments, and a girlfriend asking for a ring my next build won't be until 2012 (if the world don't end) or soon as the Radeon 7 series is out.

Been an ATI Fan all my life except for points where I felt ATI didn't have a viable alternative (8800 GTS kings of their generation) and through all these years and all the PC gaming I don't think I ever ran into these constant driver issues. My cards all ran stable, cool, and I often handled the games at their times on High/Very High settings. The only ATI card that gave me issues was the Radeon HD 4850, but it wasn't technical issues I just felt my card didn't deliver the performance that reviewers reported.

Ahhh if I could be a kid again haha. While I'm an ATI user I've always recommend either or for friends/family builds. My GF is a hardcore nvidiot so we have harmony over at my place

Nah, I did that too, but it's not really something I've done recently. My goal now is to maybe buy a second card for SLI/CF if think I need it, and I'd really like the opportunity to test out something fairly high end from each camp each generation. The only complete generation from either side that I have totally skipped since Geforce 4 is the ATI 2xxx series. Right now, I'm considering 6950 CF. If I do it, I'll probably pick up a singe 6950 and see how I like it before I sell the the GTX 580 and go CF.

<Got a girl friend so suddenly drought of new hardware haha.>

I actually got a lot more into gaming and PCs after I got married. Spent less time/money going out. We still have a social life, I just used to go out a lot. Quit smoking too, that alone probably makes up for anything I spend on PC hardware.

NV guy, how come you bought hd5750? why the defection?

lol its still Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_pcx.html
Its from the 5xxx series of cards. The xx50 in the name was just for PCI-express cards, which were new at the time. The 5750 was a piece of crap btw. I had it for only a few months before spending like 500 bucks on a 6800gt. I Still regret spending that much on a video card. I remember after buying it wishing i just got the 6600gt, because it was good enough for the games I used to play.

/looks the 6800U on his list, thinks the same damn thing, never again.../

Funny, our current rigs are just about equivalent - still rocking the Core2 Quads with newer trimmings

STB Velocity 128 (4 MB) later upgraded to...
STB Blackmagic Voodoo2 3Dfx (16 MB)
''both above were in my first PC, a Dell OEM in late '90s.

Diamond TNT2 32 MB later upgraded to ....
Hercules Geforce 2 GTS 64 MB
'' both above were in my first self-built PC

Sapphire 9600 Pro upgraded to ...
ATI 9800 Pro upgraded to ...
eVGA Geforce 6800 GT
'' all above was another customr rig in the mid 2000's.

XFX 5870 1 GB now paired with....
XFX 5870 1 GB (CF)
''latest x58 build from late 2010

Looking back I had the best gaming years with the TNT2 and Hercules cards. Then again, I was in high school/college and had the most free time. That's also when LAN parties actually still existed as large scale public events.

ATi Radeon 9800 128mb
BFGTech 6800nu OC 128mb Unlocked
Evga 7900GTO 512mb

The only other card I've owned was an STB Velocity 4400 TNT 16mb that came with my first and last pre-built system, a DELL. That card kicked some serious ass back in the day.
