Wow, looking at some of these lists was I the only one stupid enough to upgrade multiple times within the same generations? Haha.
EDIT: Card's I kept. I did buy/rent a Voodoo 3 during waiting for my 9700 to arrive, and I had a Voodoo 5 at some point for like a week, but ATI had my heart. haha.
<got a job as a kid, mother didn't teach me how to save >
ATI Rage 3D - my first dedicated GPU
ATI Rage Pro - my first AGP card
3dFX Voodoo 2 8MB
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI
ATI Radeon 7000 AIW AGP
ATI Radeon 8500 AGP
ATI Radeon 9200 AIW AGP
ATI Radeon 9500 -> Soft mod to Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 -> Soft mod to Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (my first OC'ed card)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT AIW
ATI Radeon X850 XT PE
<Got a girl friend so suddenly drought of new hardware haha.>
ATI Radeon X1950 XT
ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS SLI
ATI Radeon HD 4870x2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (4870x2 got destroyed by water along with half my rig )
ATI Radeon HD 5870 2GB
At this point in my life bills, mortgages, car payments, and a girlfriend asking for a ring my next build won't be until 2012 (if the world don't end) or soon as the Radeon 7 series is out.
Been an ATI Fan all my life except for points where I felt ATI didn't have a viable alternative (8800 GTS kings of their generation) and through all these years and all the PC gaming I don't think I ever ran into these constant driver issues. My cards all ran stable, cool, and I often handled the games at their times on High/Very High settings. The only ATI card that gave me issues was the Radeon HD 4850, but it wasn't technical issues I just felt my card didn't deliver the performance that reviewers reported.
Ahhh if I could be a kid again haha. While I'm an ATI user I've always recommend either or for friends/family builds. My GF is a hardcore nvidiot so we have harmony over at my place
