Posting problems..........

I recently gave my parents my old computer. It is an athlon 2600xp with an ecs KT-600A.

Apparently one of them was trying to plug in the printer to the serial port, and moved the motherboard by pushing too hard on the port. Basically, the motherboard wasnt put in well enough, and it shifted, possibly touching the case. The computer turned off, and that was it.

The power supply was killed, and I replaced it. Now it starts up, the fan spins on the CPU, and I get no video on the screen. When I feel the HD it doesnt seem to be spinning.

Just to make sure it wasnt being grounded, I took the motherboard out and reseated it along with everything else.

Is it possible that it shorted out, killing it, and possibly other things that were attatched?

Try completely detaching it from the case and try turning it on. Also, reset the CMOS.

Well I tried both of those, and got nothing. With the bench test, the power supply spins for a half-second and then stops. The power supply is actually NOT dead. I checked it along with the RAM and video card, and they are all fine.

I think the motherboard probably died, but I just dont understand how that could have happened.

Try using a screwdriver and short out the two pins that the power switch connects to. It really seems like a PSU issue. It could be a motherboard issue, though, that's worth looking into.

I used the screwdriver method when I tested it. I also used 2 power supplies that I know for a fact work. Im 99% sure its a motherboad issue. I cant believe something as stupid as moving the motherboard a little, would actually short it out and kill it.

I need to test the proc now, but I dont have any other motherboards that would support it. I dont imagine it would have killed the proc at the same time it killed the board.
