Potato chips/other corn based chips healthy now?

Their nutritional values are comparable to nuts now. Unsaturated fats are actually good for you and lowers cholesterol and it's good for your heart.
This is shown to us by the Cretens in which they have the highest fat intake in the world, yet the lowest percentage of heart disease due to the large majority of their fats being unsaturated. While US having a lower fat intake but having a magnitude larger percentage of heart disease with a majority fat intake of saturated fats.

Looking at nutritiondata.com, it shows that a 1g of potato chips actually has more omega-3s and omega-6s than 1g of nuts. It has twice the amount of saturated fats though, but it's still not proportionally that high, given that only 2/9th of the fat is saturated.

So should chips now lose their stigma as junkfood and actually gain a stigma as health food? Hell could they even be like cheerios and add that can help lower cholesterol & reduce the risk of heart disease slogan on it?

btw, fritos honey bbq twists are teh bestest.

Potato chips have a decent amount of vitamin C. They're one of the more nutritious snack foods out there.

I like just plain old baked potatoes too myself. Mmmmmmm..... fluffy goodness. And yeah, I was surprised by the amount of vitamin C a potato has.

Wouldn't high fat intake whether it is saturated or not cause triglyceride issues?

Not after it's fried I'd bet. Probably any cooking destroys it. I'll hafta look it up though.

They are definitely better than the used to be. As long as you buy the quality ones and not the cheap budget shit.

Americans consume WAY too much Omega 6 fatty acids in relation to their Omega 3s. That's part of the problem with our diets. Decades of ingesting corn oil and too little fish have played hell on our health. Adding to that, potato carbs are essentially treated as a simple sugar when we process them (causing an insulin spike), and the human body is purported to have an inflammatory reaction to ingesting corn. And all of the items you mentioned are deep fried. All in all, you'd have to be nuts to claim that they are healthy.

hmmm mind explaining why a high omega6 to omega3 ratio is bad? Links? I never knew that.

edit: Nevermind, I found it. Wikipedia's omega-6 article explained it.

Good to know.
On another note, nuts has a higher omega-6/omega-3 than the potato chips shown from the links. So nuts = bad?

True. But nuts are still considered a superfood despite having a really high fat content.

Yeah, but you don't overload on nuts normally. I do eat a lot of nuts but it's because I run 4 miles every other day. Eating a handful of nuts right a half hour before running works wonders.
