Potential DisplayLink problem I am having

I have an HP Zbook G6 with a port replicator. The laptop gets its line power through this port replicator. Also, the AMD internal graphics card only does DisplayLink for 4K60. Since the Zbook itself doesn't have a DisplayPort port on it (only on the port replicator), I have to use the port replicator to feed to my Samsung 4K TV that I use at home as a work monitor. This has worked fine for the past four or five months but recently I find that I turn the TV back on and find no signal reaching it from the Zbook/port replicator. The screen saver will not come on because of a special mouse solution that keeps the pointer moving. I had disabled in Power settings anything that would allow the Zbook or the monitor from being turned off. But now every so often the signal from the port replicator's DisplayLink dies and the only way to make it come back alive is to raise the laptop's lid for a moment until the image appears, which then sends the signal anew to the TV.

I didn't know if DisplayLink was a two-way communication link that can report back when a display has been physically turned off and hence turn the video signal off, or if this is something completely different. Any ideas where to begin? I placed this post here because it didn't really fit in monitors, graphics cards, or wherever one posts a question of video transports (VGA, HDMI, DP, DVI, etc.).

I'm suspecting it is the port replicator because ... well I do not know.

Yeah, the days of just being able to turn off the display and walk away and then turn it back on when you're back to work are gone now. The newer display technologies talk back and forth and software updates can also change that behavior. My solution to this is to simply leave it on and set a blank screensaver. Sure, it wastes power and the display, but the manufacturers made it this way so we can't just turn the display on and off anymore.

The only other solution would be to get some sort of displayport kvm where it make the system think there's a display all the time even when it's switched. Then you can switch to the other kvm port and turn your tv off when not in use and not have any problems.
