Of all things, I'd just happened to pick up one of these fellows about three weeks ago. Had actually purchased it on eYay for a bit less, but the seller seems to have a non-eYay store. The store itself doesn't look too nice... I know I probably wouldn't have gone near it with a ten foot pole if I hadn't bought anything from them before. But, it looks like they are an ebay power seller, even though their online store doesn't look too hot. The place is:

http://www.priceisright.biz/product.asp?0=421&1=423&3=693 . They have it for 25.00 plus shipping... the shipping seemed high. (Was 9.xx to ship to the east coast versus 6.00 for the Geeks.) And, on top of that, the picture on their site doesn't seem to be of the one with voice recording, although the description lists it. (Looks to be the image of the player from the manufacturers' site,
here.)
For some, could end up being about $10 cheaper, although that picture does worry me a bit... I know I ended up receiving one with the voice feature and that it did arrive. Their eYay feedback is something like 99% good with many thousands of feedbacks. I also like the Geeks a lot, though. (Good post, OP! )
The player got mixed reviews on
Amazon, but it seems like if it works, people like it. The main complaints seemed to be about the working lifetime of the player... one person said that it wasn't possible to download the voice recordings, but the manual seems to say otherwise. ("The music and record files can also be erased in computer via USB connection.") The manual says that it can take a 64 MB SmartMedia card, but doesn't mention anything higher... *might* have a limit of 128 MB total.
Bought it for a friend... she should be getting it for a present in a few days. *Crosses fingers*
