This deal sure brought the newbies out of the woodwork. Try getting the combo together at Monarch, sell the free copies of FC, HL2, and Nap and you end up paying $280 or so.

Well, I went to the Houston show and hadn't even looked at my server bundle, but it is indeed the upgraded board with PCI-E slots.

Anyone else at the Houston show get the server bundle?

That's $310. So at $250, you are already saving $60 or about 20%. Then consider that you are getting a copy of Windows XP 64bit. I'm not sure what that's worth, but I just consider it a bonus.

The only problem I see with this deal is the ASUS A8N-E motherboard. It's strange that this motherboard is no longer even listed on Newegg. I see that the A8N-SLI is quickly coming down in price and will probably come down to the price point that the A8N-E used to sell at. Is ASUS phasing out the A8N-E or something?

It's still there don't worry
Da egg linky

That link is for a refurbished one though. THe listing for the new one seems to have dissapeared. I know it was there a week or two ago.

Why do some people here always feel the need to comment on someone's post count and call people newbies? FYI, I've been a member of these forums since 1998 or 1999. I just had an overzealous moderator ban my account at one point and I don't spend all my free time posting here or use the forum as a chat board (off-topic area). Pretty sad when someone's post count on an Internet forum is so important to them that they have to keep reminding everyone about it.

Just in time... Looks like the deal is officially dead.

"The AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour 2005 Desktop and Server Promotional Bundles are now sold out and no longer available. If you have already purchased a bundle through this site, your bundle will be available for pick up the day of the AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour 2005 in your area."

La di da, one last question a day before the Burbank show. With regards to the giveaways of motherboards, video cards, etc., is this a door prize thing? Meaning if we don't come early enough to register (e.g., we show up at 5:30 to pick up our bundle), we wouldn't be eligible to win? Or do they keep registration open through, say, dinner or something?

(Forgive me if it's been answered already, but if it has been, I didn't see it.)

It brought you out.

The AMD tech tour combo comes with an OS. CPU + motherboard + OS for $250 is HOT.

There are prizes given by AMD themselves including a couple Opteron processors and a bunch of hats and shirts. Those prizes are picked from feedback cards that you are given to fill out when you first get there.

Then there are prizes given by the various vendors. They were collecting people's business cards and drawing the prizes from those, I believe. Except for Microsoft, who had people fill out cards and drew from those. However, when MS raffled the MP3 player, the MS rep said he wanted to see the guy's business card. The MS rep wouldn't give the guy the prize cause he wasn't a legitimate system builder. I only know this cause I was sitting by the guy and overheard. Anyway, it seems the vendors want to make sure their prizes are going to legitimate attendees.

Edit: Just realized that I didn't really answer the question. AMD collected the cards right before the drawing at the end of the show, and the vendors were collecting cards up until the end so there would be no need to get there early for the drawings.

I'd suggest you not to change. A8N-SLI Deluxe is not much better. Only good thing about A8N-SLI is SLI, but the rest, A8N-E is absolutely better. A8N-SLI Deluxe has countless bugs and poor overclockability. A8N-E eliminated such problems, and has much better overclockability/stability. Therefore, I would not say going from stable A8N-E to buggy A8N-SLI is an "upgrade."

Yes, I want it because of the SLI, but thanks for the info, I'll look into it!

Nope. Based on the fact that you missed the thread and numerous posts on the Monarch deal.

Anyway, don't be so sensitive. I mean, geez, you took offense to being called a newb?

Next up SUNNYVALE!

So are we all gonna meet up and hang out waiting for the bundles or what? If so, then we need a secret sign or some way to find each other. If not then, fine, whatever....I'm cool chilling by myself in the back. -

Yeah HeroOfPellinor, I shoulda jumped on the deal though by the time I found out it was too late. I was going to buy the system to host the asp.net game I designed with a friend though I guess I will used some dedicated hosting until I go out and build a system worthy of my game.

I got dissed today.

I went to pick up my package and my name wasn't on the list.

I had to talk to the "boss" and he told me that they would have to ship it to me. :|

I checked my credit card and sure enough, they charged me the$250.

He said they would take care of it but it kind if sucked driving 60miles in So. Cal. traffic to be told that I was SOL today.

Oh well, at least I got in on the deal.
When he told me that my name wasn't on the list, I started to wonder if I had done something wrong and didn't order it correctly.

Did you get an order confirmation e-mail?

With the new MB they are handing out, it makes a kick rear desktop. I wouldn't have hesitated for a second if they had offered that MB first.

Truly, I'm quite flattered that you've taken such a personal interest in your fellow ATHD'rs. Since you seem so curious, mine with either be an IIS box at work or a DAW. Also, my favorite color is green, I like moonlit walks on the beach, I'm 6' tall, and my interests include reading and running in long distance races.

But, ya, most people probably want it for the same reason you want it.

got back from the Burbank show....
besides the bundles...free dinner was oaky,

the MS media center demo was interesting.... the talent on the stage was boring for the most part.
The giveaways were nice, but with 300 people there....it was meh.

5- opterons
1- X800
1- cheap-o mp3 player
1- xp business software thing- worth $$$$

1. your best bet, arrive around 5PM for the free dinner and register (pick up your bundle, also)
2. leave
3. come back at 8:45 to get your card into the giveaways.

Gee, there's no need to tell anyone to STFU, that''s just rude. BTW, I hope you're not getting the desktop bundle too, because according to your own post you should be paying $30 more for it at Monarch, WITHOUT an OS included.
