I'm not sure about that.

Why dont you try it when you're at the show and see if they'll give you an extra bundle for free.

Report back here if you are successful.

ROFL! HAHAHAAAAA....

AMD Exec Assistant: Sir, we just got word that a guy started dancing on tables while screaming "give me my bunde" repeatedly

AMD Exec: Was his name on the pickup list?

AMD Exec Assistant: No Sir, but it was reported that he made bunch of LAME sarcastic posts on Anandtech wrongfully accusing many people of buying the bundles for resell on ebay.

AMD Exec: Just give him the damn bundle to shut that self righteous monkey up and wait for him to sell the bundle himself on ebay, then the other Anandtech members can Laugh their Asses Off at him. Even if no one else knows, he won't be able to respect himself when he see himself in the mirror for all those wrongfull accusations.

AMD Exec Assistant: Yes Sir, You're absolutely right Sir!

Just got back from Sunnyvale. That's a long trip from Sacto, but there was no traffic, so it went quick. Got both bundles and didn't need to do a strip tease or anything.

The event was in a big white tent on the lawn in front of the AMD building. A rough count showed two sections with 400 seats each and 80% of the seats were filled with plenty of people standing in the back and sides, so maybe 1,000 people there.

Just got back from AMd, Sunnyvale show. It sucked.

They gave away only *4* opteron CPUs. That's it, no more AMD CPUs.

The AMD partners had a little more stuff - ATI gave away a coupld of graphics boards, and a couple of motherboard manufacturers gave away a few mbs.

More than 70% of the the giveaways were lame XXL t-shirts.

This show really sucked. 4 CPUs for ~600 guys! And it was at AMD HQ.

The last couple of years were good and when they were thowing stuff into the crowd it was fun. Now, they only pick up the coupons at the end at random and call out a winner.

Also, the 'buffet' is only a burger.

Everybody got a AMD cap and XXL g(r)ay t-shirt at the end as consolation.

Yeah, I just got back from the Sunnyvale show too. I have to agree with fade2black that the show was pretty ghetto for being at AMD HQ. Presentations were completely lacking in technical substance. Being served burgers/hotdogs (no other choices of main course) was the last straw for me (don't want to get "free" mad cow disease courtesy of AMD.)

Yeah the show was odd. I mean it's supposed to be aimed at system builders, but they were covering the most basic functionality like they were presenting to non-tech users. They repeated about a dozen times that you can run 32-bit apps on a 64-bit processor with a 64-bit OS....stuff like that. And they "alerted" us to the fact that selling customers 64-bit products is a better investment for the customer and will make us look better.....and its a good thing they told the system builders this 2 years after 64-bit processors hit the shelves.

And I slumped down in my chair in embarassment when they opened with that Michael Schumacher and Lance Armstrong bit. I can only imagine a child or, again, a non-techie would be impressed by the association.

They abruptly spliced into the presentations these really short testimonials from companies I'd never heard of who said they really liked the 64-bit processors and OS.

One guy had trouble with his mic, but nobody else did, but they still blamed attendees' cell phones and blackberries for the interference.

Somebody stole a white box from the Foxconn desk that had all their leads in it. Bastard.

Dual core is supported in XP Home.

Overall it felt very awkward......thrown together hastily at best or poorly conceived at worst. It must have been geared towards non-tech executives at system builder companies...you know, the kind of people who would never attend something like this.

That said, AMD processors are the best and I use them in all my systems and promote them as often as I can.

I agree with mechou and HeroOfPellinor the presentations were like infomercials, they delivered a loaded marketing speel to us. The first half seemed too drawn out (it didn't help to be in small uncomfortable chairs, outside in the heat, in the bug infested lawn).

The "buffet" wasn't too great, but for free, anything is okay!

The second half was more of the same, with a media center demo, and minor cpu swapping to show performance on stage, the Q&A was a welcoming change from the "infomercial" presentations. They ended with some give-aways. As mentioned above, the other sposors together outdid what AMD gave away. Sad considering it was on AMD's HQ site.

Overall it was worth it if you got the bundles.

I actually skipped the buffet and second half of the show. Mostly because I was expecting 5-6 hours of holiday traffic heading back to Sacramento. I may have stayed if I was getting anything useful out of the show, but like I said earlier...

Also, it might be worth noting that the event was in a large outdoor tent about 120' x 120' and it was in the 90's outside. All they had was one or two large fans that you couldn't feel. The place smelled like a giant stick of RightGuard.

Burgers for the IT capital of the world! In their own backyard no less! The mind boggles.

Maybe they didn't want to appear like they could afford better lest their biggest customers start asking for better discounts.

thanks for the pics wizz. It's about time someone posted some pics of the tour. One of your pics shows the A8N asus mobo and it seems to me that it's using the older NB fan rather then the newer one. Are all the A8N boards there like that?

And how was the tour overall? I heard some complaints on fatwallet that there's a lot of hype and that a lot of the presentations was long and boring. Was any of that true for you? Did it feel like it was worth your time?

Thanks

The A8N was part of the Asus showcase; I don't know what was in the bundle (I didn't purchase a desktop or server bundle.) The tour itself was pretty much marketing (X2 is better than Pentium D, AMD64 is better than 6XX/EMT, Opteron exists and Itanium doesn't, etc.) Somewhat boring, but I had nothing else to do that Monday...

I attended the Sunnyvale tour also. Have to agree with fade2black and mechou. I was a bit disappointed at the set up of the tour and the food offering of the buffet. You guys really got roast beef and all that good stuff from the earlier tours? Kinda sounds like we got whatever the hell was left over. Not sure if anyone else that attended this event noticed but I was kind of surprised that many of the affiliates' rep there like asus, abit, and elite seemed like they barely understand english. I was asking the asus rep there in particular about that NB fan problem on A8N-E which they have on display. His reply had absolutely nothing to do with my question. I also asked him where I could pick up the desktop bundle that I purchased and he had this dumbfounded look on his face -- as if he didn't know what I was asking. *shakes head*

And exactly what the heck is the deal with XXXXXXL t-shirts anyway?? The last amd event I attended back in dec 2001 NYC they gave away the same XXXXXXXXXXL t-shirts. My god, do they think we're all super fat obese computer geeks like that fatass MS rep spokesman? These t-shirts are big enough to fit like 3 of me!

Anyway, quick question about the desktop bundle. Will this psu work with it?

Thanks

PS. The A8N-E board I received did have the newer northbridge fan installed already thank god.

Make sure it's enabled in BIOS, also enable the QFan controller if you want fan speeds controlled with temp. Then go to Control Panel --> Performance and Maintenance --> Power Options and set the power scheme to "Minimal Power Management. I should also add in that I downloaded the x64 driver from AMD's site here. Not sure if that step's required or not, but it certainly can't hurt. From there, if you open up the Asus CnQ app on the CD, you should be able to see the CPU scaling between 1GHz and 2GHz on the fly. Hope that helps.

I went to the Sunnyvale event as well, at the tail end of the food being served. I didn't get a goodie bag. There were only like 5 vendors, and it seemed small time. If you guys want to go to a real event try hitting any of the Apple events. Heck, we get better stuff every other week at our beer bashes. Anyways, since I had no bag to hold my bundle I just left.

I would not recommend turning on QFan controller at all at this time. I built and stress tested the combo over the weekend, and there were many times where the stock HSF would not start/spin from a cold boot with QFan enabled.

I'd rather not have my new processor fry at the expense of "silence."

I'm using 1006 bios from Asus. And I really don't think it's my power supply as it's plenty beefy (Antec 550).

Nah, I'm pretty sure Sunnyvale was a "fluke" because it was on the AMD Campus. Food was probably catered by the AMD cafeteria/food service folks.

If the event is anywhere else other than an AMD site you probably have better food.

I know this bundle does not include a case, ram, video card, but I wonder if the CompUSA sale for $150 for the AMD 3400 is not a better deal?
