Hello, I recently was going to purchase the 160GB Seagate drive from outpost running 50 after rebate (search the forum). But, with tax and shipping, it came out to 116 and change. I checked newegg and noticed that it was only 119 there, so decided to order from them out of loyalty. When I searched the newegg site, I also came up with the refurbished version of the same drive:
Refurbished Seagate 160gb @ newegg- 86 plus 1 buck shipping
Now, I know that this is refurbished, and there is no guarantee of getting the box/upc. However, there are two reasons I decided to give it a go:
1) If this was just an OEM drive, they would probably sell it as such. Chances are that if a retail kit was returned, the drive stayed with the retail kit
2) I have ordered 4 or 5 different newegg refurbs, and gotten originial boxes for every one of them.
Of course I spoke to Newegg CS, which can't guarantee that it is in the box, but screw it, I'll bite. If this works out, I save an additional 30 bucks, and if not, oh well, I bought the drive for 87, still not horrible.
I also noted that in the invoice (at least the pre-invoice that they show on-screen) it doesnt mention that this item is refurbished or any such thing.
Oh, here is the rebate, and it isn't vendor specific:
Rebate @ Outpost
I should see the drive by about friday, I'll let you know how it turns out, as you have until the 11th to purchase the drive.
So, hot, or not?
