power brick interoperability?

I have had an ac adapter that plugs into the wall damaged. I have another that looks similar but I don't know how to translate the power ratings and such on the labels of the two. They seem to be the same except for the mA rating being larger on the alternate adaptor. Will the alternate adapter work with the peripheral without frying it?

Broken adapter:
INPUT: 120VAC 60Hz 8W
OUTPUT: 12VDC 300mA

Alternate adapter:
INPUT: 120VAC 60Hz 12.5W
OUTPUT: 12VDC 500mA

Yes, it will be fine as long as the voltage and polarity is the same and the current rating is at least as high as the original. The peripheral will only draw as much current as it needs, and since the original says 300mA, thats as much as it will take from the alternate adapter.
