I'm at my brother's house, got him a brand new Antec case... and the power button still doesn't work. I've checked the connection, checked the power management settings in the BIOS and Windows, and the power button won't turn the computer on or off. Anything else I can try?
The USB ports on his previous case were damaged and possibly could have shorted out, might that effect the power button? Any suggestions welcome... I have till Sunday to try and fix this for him =) Thanks.

Try turning it on and off by shorting across the two power pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver. If that works it is the switch and if it doesn't it is the motherboard.

"switch connector" = the plug which says "PWR" and plugs into the mobo.

I agree, short out the pins with a screwdriver and see if it boots up.

Yes.

Although it seems that they work even when they're backwards...because mine was and it worked, but I've heard of this causing peoples switches not to work...so it's worth double checking.

This should work regardless which way the switch is connected, Check your connections from the case front panel to the board.

Well, no luck... I guess the motherboard is damaged. The power button doesn't work and the USB headers for front panel connectors don't work. Maybe next time I see him I'll get him a replacement motherboard... no time though while I'm here cause I don't want to buy one locally and overpay for it.

Is there a keyboard power on jumper or bios option set? If so, it will disable the power on button. Did you try a momentary short across the pins with a small metal object?

If the power button doesn't work, how about using keyboard power up? I always set mine up that way. Never need to touch the button!.

I don't think there's an option for that... it's a Shuttle AK32N and I didn't see anything like that.

Here is some advice, some are obvious and you may have already tried them:

1. Did you try holding the power button?
2. Remove the connector from the motherboard and flip it to the other side then plug it back in. (ie. reverse it) Sometimes when i connect those things I put them the wrong way around and the reset button, or the led's won't show up, then when i reverse them it works.

If it still doesnt work, somethings probably wrong with the MB then.

Yeah, I tried all that... the motherboard must have been damaged when the USB port got broken and probably shorted out. I didn't think that would effect the power switch connection on the motherboard, but apparently it has.
