Hi All,

Looking to buy a Power Conditioner for my new Home Theater System I've putting together. Have a 42" Plasma TV that I want to protect from Lightning Strikes and also want to clean the power going to all my components as well as cleaning the DirecTV signal.

I'm not well versed in what I need. I have a Dual Tuner DirecTV HD DVR and I want to make sure I can clean BOTH inputs as I watch and record at almost all times.

A couple I've seen and wondering about are:

APC AV 1.5 kVA H Type Power Conditioner 120V

BELKIN AP41300-12

I am unsure whether these will be able to clean both Coax Cable/Satellite inputs for my Dual Tuner DVR. I'm guessing I can plug in one to the Satellite connection and the other to the AUX connection and be good to go, but I don't want to assume this, buy it, then learn I was wrong.

I'm leaning towards the Belkin as it's right at my price range ($300) and has a nice look to it (Silver Chassis and Blue Lights match the rest of my system).

Can anyone answer my question on the Dual Tuner concern. Also, any recommendations outside of these 2 for between $200-$400?

Thanks,
Ethan

John from this forum highly recommends CyberPower for devices like this. He swayed me away from going with APC and going with a CyberPower UPS/Surge system for my home. I'm not sure how different a power conditioner is but if their UPS/Surge products are anything to gauge it by then I would highly suggest checking out CyberPower too.

I checked them out. Their Power Conditioners seem to be lower end, not the kind of quality I'm looking to get. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I have been using a Belkin like This for my similar home theater and it has been very nice I seem to have less noise in the audio and a much clearer picture when viewing HD sources. I would assume that the one you are considering would be at least as good.

How many coaxible connectors does this have? I need two for my Dual Tuner DVR.

I did look at the 5400-EX but the cost was about $250 more than the Belkein. Also, I would need to spend an extra $75 or so to get the silver plate for the front.

I think I've decided to go with the Belkein as it seems the best value for the money.

My only open question is. Will this support both Satellite Coaxible Inputs as I need two for my DVR? Can I plug one into the Cable input and the other into the Satellite input? I can't imagine that I couldn't, but don't know...Does any know?

Thanks,
Ethan

I use a tripp lite line conditioner and a monster powerbar for surge protection on the coaxial lines and the phone lines

All tripp lite line conditioners

Tripp Lite Line conditioner lc1200 I have for a Hitachi 57' HDTV, Onkyo 6.1 reciever, tivo, dvd recorder, dvd player, HD reciever.

Monster bar got mine on sale for $99 couple years ago

components -> monster bar -> tripp lite

I can hear the tripp lite kick in sometimes during storms, and when another major appliance kicks in. Its nice to know its always getting the right voltage, and wont fluctuate with low and high spikes.

~$350 for both

You could say your budget is $400 ... fine
Now if all your expensive equipment goes
bad, even one majpr item, due to a Power Spike,
Power Outage, Brownout, Lightning .. then you
get to either "Attempt to fix it" (if fixable) or
Replace it .. either way will be way more
costly than protecting it with good equipment
in the first place ... and by the way, the unit I
linked to will provide a nice clean Sine Wave,
even when it is on the Battery Backup ... it at
least will give you enough time to shut everything
down properly

The choice is yours .... Pay now and have peace of mind
Take your chances and maybe Pay a lot later on

I don't see how this affects me. All the ones I'm looking at have a warranty that if your equipment does die while being plugged into this due to a lightning strike or other power surge then the equipment is replaced at no charge. The warranties range from $20,000 to $500,000. Any of those is more than adequate for my setup. I don't see the need to spend $800 more on a Power Conditioner. The $1200 cost is half the cost of my TV.

It's fine to spend more if you have a setup that requires it, but your stating things that aren't true. The equipment is warrantied by being plugged into one of these, the cash won't be coming out of my pocket.
