Power fan?

I have a gigabyte p35 ds3l mobo and a 600watt ocz psu. The psu has a 4pin cable which I am guessing is the power fan connector but the motherboards power fan connector is a 3pin, so when I try to connect it my pc doesnt even start up. I am fairly new to building pcs but are the power fans important?

Your PC isn't starting up because you're shorting the PSU out.

The PSU's fan is powered internally. You don't have to hook anything up. I don't know what four-pin you're talking about, but if you keep plugging it into things it doesn't belong plugged into, you're going to kill something in time.

It sounds like he's plugging in the floppy power connector into a fan header.

yeah, that was what I was doing.... probably won't have any lasting effects right?

Well last time someone did that he blew up the mosfet on his board that drove that fan connector but there was no other lasting effects.

Hehe, I remember that post. I think there've been a couple people that did that, but they knew the problem as soon as they did it because I think there was significant sparkage involved. Similar things also happened when someone accidentally shifted the plug over by a pin.
