since laptop is made for portability, can they be use in a car without having problem? I mean, instead of spending $200 something.. if I use a laptop to watch DVD in the car, will the bumps on the road cause problem for the laptop DVD player?

The Toshiba Adapter says:

Input 100-240V 1.8A/50-60Hz
Output 19V 3.16A

But it does not say anything about wattage.

Thanks

Most laptop AC adapters are ~75W if I am correct, or even less. So 150W should be plenty.

At least that's what it said on my HP ac adapter.

bumps shouldn't be a problem, the only difference between ppl driving to work w/ their laptop in their briefcase/backpack and you watching a movie on your laptop would be that there's a spinning disc, and i doubt bumps will do damage to that.

Most laptops only draw 35 watts. This is plenty. And you should be able to watch DVDs just fine on the road.... but try to not do it while you are driving anywhere near me, my friends, or family.

volts X amps = watts

For $9, go for it. If it won't run the laptop, it will at least charge the battery.

I use an IBM notebook with a 150W power adapter and watch DVDs on the notebook while we are travelling. It all works great! The sound on my notebook isn't great so I bought a cassette adapter and plug that into the headphone jack on the notebook and then put the cassette into the car stereo. The sound rocks!

I have a 300 watt inverter in my car.. i've noticed that sometimes with bumps or if i touch the cord, the power will just shut off.. also, i have a cable from my headphone out to the aux inputs on my cd player and have line noise, but sometimes it will be very clear... anyone know why this might be? anyone know where else I might want to post this?

The output is what goes into the Laptop. Therefore your laptop should be drawing approx:
19v X 3.16A = 60Watts

Looking at the ratings on a notebook power adapter tells you nothing except the MAXIMUM ratings on that adapter, not how much power it uses, not how much the notebook itself uses.

If this cheapie inverter can actually deliver 150W it should be enough for a notebook.

150 kinda sucks. I would go for 250 with 450 peak. Or if you want something powerful, you can usually find a 450 for about $25-30.

uh... huh? If it is a car inverter and is decently built, it should work down to 6.5 something volts when cranking the engine. And for latops, this is pretty much overkill, it'll work. Too bad I can't use it in the plane : ) [they have regultions agaist >90W/>75W inverters] My laptop has 90W printed right on the side, so it should work for any laptop.

Yea, but you'll have to watch out for blowing fuses going through a cigarette lighter with a 450 watt inverter. I don't even think it would be possible to sustain that much that way. I would run a dedicated power line directly to the inverter if you're going to get somethign that strong.

Oh please. If all you want to do is power a laptop, charge a cell phone, etc., a 150w inverter is plenty powerful enough, and most certainly does not "suck".

And it's hard to beat this price.

I was just about to pickup one of these for $19.99 at Compgeeks, but I think I will get this one instead.

Thanks for the heads up!

Where have you seen this $25-30 for a 450 watt one? I was at Wal-mart yesterday and they wanted ~$40 for 300W!
