Power management questions?

Hi all. My new Thunderbird on Asus A7V133 is running nicely. Thanks for all the help while building it.
Is there a difference between "suspend" and "standby" in power management. Ive seen the term standby in windows, but I swear Ive seen the term suspend used in my bios. I was wondering if they are the same thing, or different?
Also, what is the difference between the power settings in my bios and the ones in windows? I was thinking that when you make power management selections in windows, windows just talks to the bios and makes the changes there for you, is this correct? Do the different power settings have to be enabled in the bios in order for power management features of windows to work?
Ive seen some settings in my bios that I dont see in windows power management, like "video off in suspend", does this mean the settings in bios operate seperately from windows?
Also, what is setting the hard disk off in standby? Does this turn off the hard disk while in standby, instead of just spinning it down and putting it in power saving mode?
