power question after formating notebook

I just formated my new Presario 900Z and put XP pro on it. The amd power now function that lowered my cpu speed no longer works. How do I add this feature again? I noticed the battery life went from roughly 3 hours to 2 hours with this turned off.

I believe there is a proggy from intel that will do this, also freakishly compaq has good driver support, take a gander at what they have there. Also make sure speedstep or whatever is enabled in the bios. Compaqs always come with custom drivers and stuff, thats what you'll need to find. Good Luck

I don't recomend checking intel for the fix SINCE YOUR USING A AMD BASED CPU. does XP reconise your computer as a lapptop? one thing I would do is used the restore disk to put XP home back on it and then use the Pro disk to upgrade... I know that it wouldn't be as squeeky clean as a fresh install but youd have 3 hours of batt life again... also check under your device manager and make sure you have a MS ACPI- Compliant Controll method battery. other wise look in the power setting, and make the battery apear on you taskbar, maybe your'd access to the power methods.... also check compaqs site... but any way good luck.

The or "whatever" covered speed step, and I'm sure compaq would tell him what to do anyway. unless you have something constructive to say, go back to wherever you used to lurk and lurk there. I came across something in the microsoft knowledge base with drivers for the processor and it's working again.

I actually did try and upgrade to Pro and when it was done it got a blue screen error when it tried to start windows. Safe mode didn't work, running repair didn't work. Ended up formatting and doing a fresh install.
