Power Supplies... grrr

I know this has been beaten to death but I am going nuts trying to work my way around getting a great PS for my A8R32-MVP with my X2-4800+ (ocing). I currently have an Antec Neo2 550 but everyone is telling me those are crap?? HUH?? They are saying they don't push enough on some sort of rail... I am not doing crossfire although I do have an X1900XT. I just want something that wont have issues with the Asus board and will provide enough for an oc'ed x2 4800+, 2GIGs of RAM and 1 HD/DVDRW. I don't mind spending some coin if I actally get a better unit that allows better ocing, cooler performance and no crashes or reboots due to power loss.

I was thinking of a Thermotake one... or OCZ 600 but man that's a lot of coin to work around that.

So would the Antec be OK or are there compatability issues?

I have an Antec NeoHE 550 with my Gigabyte DS3 and an E6600, with an ATI x1900 XTX, and everything performs perfectly. It's an excellent power supply, read some professional reviews, everyone speaks quite highly of it.

Using an Enermax Noisetaker with my A8R32 and x1900 Crossfire...

I recommend it -- quiet and very stable. 12v rail: 12.1 volts under load

If you've got a 550 Neo HE then be happy. They aren't my first choice but they aren't bad either. I'm using one now, does the job well enough.

While a Neo 550 definitely wouldn't be my first choice, at least it's the best psu with the Antec name on it, by far. Use it, and see what your voltages are, with a multimeter. Do it while you have either a game, or 3dMark 2006, running. As long as your 12v rail is 11.95v, at the minimum, with everything at stock speeds, then you'll be fine.

To find out what your 12v rail is running, with a multimeter, just put the leads from a digital multimeter into one of the molex's. If it says ~5v, then swap sides.

Out of two Neo 550 HE's I had one fail on me & as a result I would hesitate to buy another, however the one I still have is running fine & powering an Opteron 170, X1900XTX & 2gb's RAM without issue... these are made by Seasonic for Antec & as a result are far better then other Antec PSU's, so unless yours is giving you specific problems I'd say hang onto it & keep your money in your pocket.
