Either way though just because a PSU is rated for 400 watts does'nt mean it can actually deliver it.

None of these PSUs have been tested for maximum output so wether or not the PSU can deliver what its rated for is not known. Again though, these are both top notch PSUs but id still go for the tried and true Enermax over OCZ.

That's why these at-the-wall power consumption numbers are not set in stone. It all depends on what the PSU's efficiency is. That 50W difference in my example is mostly lost as heat, which means the less efficient PSU will need better cooling or lose performance as the temp increases.

Reputable PSU manufacturers will list the rated total power as sustainable and not peak, but I personally wouldn't want to test any PSU's max for very long.

Yeah, I guess if you've got that much cash to burn, a Turbocool 510 Deluxe is pretty much required.

You'll probably want to do a fan swap on it though, or have them do it for you.

Guess I'm going to have an extra Enermax laying around as I will probably go for the PCPC tomorrow. What fans should I substitute for the quietest operation?

my vote goes for the OCZ 520W ModStream psu. as for the PC P&C psu, they are the best available, but are way loud.

Well since I am bordering on fanboyism myself I will let the Enermax thing go.

I hope OCZ is making a good product, we need some competition in the PSU dept in the coming years with these power hog SLI systems coming out.

I would really like to see Tom's Hardware do another hardcore 20+ PSU shootout again...I remeber when this article first came out. Everyone and their brother bought Antec PSUs after that..

PC&C 510 is 510 watts of continous power at 50 degrees Celcius, its over kill for most everything except sli. Those other PSu are rated at temp's your psu will almost never be at, so the acual continous power if often a lot lower that what its rated for.

im interested in this 600w matchup. Specifically, i was wondering if the single pcie connection on the OCZ affected the 12v rail differently than the dual pcie connections on the Enermax. I guess it would take some serious testing, but im curious if a dual pcie ps would fair better in an SLi config, since its specifically deisgned for it, than a single pcie ps.

i guess it depends what kind of config you have, but if you have two 6800 Ultras would they share their own rail on the Enermax? and on the OCZ would an adapted pcie 6800 ultra overload one of the two 12v rails?

hope this makes sense. awfully confusing to me trying to keep tracks of amps, wattage, and efficiency when there are no real product comparisons.

thanks for any input.

I believe the models that come with 1 PCIe connector also have a Molex -> PCIe adaptor.
