Hello everyone!

I am currently constructing my first build, and I have a question...Am I ok with the 500w stock power supply that came with my case?

I ordered a 700 watt power supply, but it won't be here until next Tuesday. I really would like to get my machine running to see if its operational.

My parts are listed below...

1.EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail 400 Watts (This is the only item that listed the power usage).

2.Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3250824AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

3.Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail

4.ASUS P5NSLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

5.pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PQI24200-2GDB - Retail

6.SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write, LightScribe Technology Black IDE Model SH-S182M/BEBN - OEM

Some help would be greatly appreciated!

The 500W should be plenty, what brand is it? I have a fortron 500W power supply, 8800GTS, Athlon FX-57 CPU, two dvd burners and 6 fans in the case and I have no problems whatsoever. 700 is probably more than you need.

I frankly have never trusted a PSU that came with a case myself, usually they are pretty crappy units (especially if the case was a $50 one). I'd personally wait on the new PSU. What new 700W PSU did you order btw? 700W is gonna be overkill but gives you room for upgrades later.

The new PSU is a good unit.

The PSU that came with your case doesn't even have a single PCIe power connector, so unless you have adapters you won't be able to run your new system anyway.

Try this site. It's probablly not 100% accurate but pretty close - but like an artillery round close is usually good enough.

Extreme Power Supply Calculator 2.0

Pay attention to the 2nd paragraph there and click that link to get some good reading on power supplies.

The GameXstream 700W is a pretty decent unit. I have the 600W version by FSP too. The only worrying problem with it is its excessive ripple at higher loads.

He's not going to get anywhere near 700W (or even 500W) of load anyway, so it should be fine.
