Hello there,
I'm being plagued by continual crashes of an older system that I put together for a friend.....an older BH6 board with celeron chip. The symptoms are: sometimes total power failure at the circuit breaker in the power strip I'm using; power failure while scandisking or any constant stress on the system; unusual patterns on the monitor screen; lockup of system at differing times; crashing and rebooting. I've gone through ost of the virus scans and other software diagnostics without success.....so I'm wondering if any of you out there might have any suggestions on what the cause is. ...I'm thinking a failing power supply. What do you think?? Thanks.
Jim

If this is blowing the fuse on the power strip, something isn't right. Have you plugged the machine into another outlet that is not on the same circuit?

Otherwise, if it is not the power supply, there may be a short somewhere. Usually if the motherboard is shorted out, nothing happens though. In any case, I would try a different outlet, maybe a different power strip and then a different psu.

Total power failure? Well that could be a hardware issue .. or one of your devices is causing unstableness, but if your PC is only rebooting and crashing. First thing you want to do is update the BIOS and set the BIOS to default setttings and change any of the settings after if needed. Then do a fresh installation of your Operating System; next install all the latest drivers .. especially Chipset and Video is a must; Goto Windows update and install all drivers updates and critical updates;

With the latest BIOS and drivers ... your PC shouldn't be crashing ... if it still is .. then it could be a power issue, the way you set your BIOS settings, and or hardware issue ...

I changed the powersupply out this morning and have been running the machine constantly, shutting down, booting up, defragging, etc......all with no problems.....soooo, I guess it was the powersupply that was causing all my problems after all. Thanks for the input.
