I recently recvieved some spare hardware from a friend of mine and noticed she had a decent Enermax psu that she wasn't using. It is the Enermax Liberty 620wt ELT620 AWT. Now I am connecting it to my motherboard and no dice. I tried my old power supply to make sure I didn't mess anything up but it still works. So I know it isn't the PSU as I also tried it in my friends computer. I did notice the enermax is missing a pin in the 24 pin connection.

What could be the issue?

My set up:

AMD Sempron 3200+ 1.86 ghz
Asus M2N-E mobo
3gb ddr2 800 mhz ram
Western Digital 250 gb hdd
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS
Loygisys 480 Wt psu

The missing pin is the -5V pin, that isn't part of the ATX spec anymore, so it's no longer included.

Does the rig even power up at all, or is it completely dead with the Enermax?

Dead... their is a green light on the mobo that will light up when its turned on, but it wont do anything else at all.

Well.. the green light means it's getting +5VSB. Are you sure you're hitting the correct two pins on the motherboard for power?

The power supply is only going to turn on when the motherboard TELLS IT to turn on. There are two pins on the motherboard where a power switch hooks up. You have to have something on that power switch to turn the motherboard/power supply on.

Yes the power switch was on it. The computer I am trying to put it in is the one I am using now... hence a power button has to be hooked up. Like I said... i have tried this power supply on another computer and it works fine, I have tried another power supply it works on mine... when I go to hook the enermax one in .... no go.

Few simple questions:
Are you sure you hooked up both the P4 connector next the the CPU and the 6-pin aux power connector to the video card when you had her PSU in?

Am I correct in assuming that you did not disconnect your power switch leads from the motherboard at any point, so we can rule that out?

So there is NO change when you click the power switch? No fans attempt to spin but just stop afterwards? It just sits there as if you hadn't hit the switch?

Yes all cords were hooked up, CPU and everything. Nope no other cords were bumped, or messed with, checked like 20 times. No change at all when you click the power switch the fans dont even twitch. Yes it just acts like the power never was fed to it.

If this PSU works on another PC, but not this one, and another PSU works on this PC, than there must be a compatibility issue. Yes... there is such a thing as compatibility issues. One of the biggest is with the time delay on the power good signal. @ BFG we once had an issue where the intermittent power good signal on the GS-650 was too short and this would prevent the 650i motherboard from powering up.

The liberty 620 was a black eye for enermax and I will not run one in my systems. I had one let go frying the mb however enermax did replace it with an infinity 650. I did not use that ps either never even opened the box. Just google the liberty 620 and you'll see what I'm talking about. If the unit is still under warranty I'd rma it.

OK thanks guys!! Is their a place to find out if certain ones will work on my system? Seems like the motherboard is kinda picky.
