Power Supply Pop, now what??

The power supply on my 1 year old computer made a popping sound, smoked a little, and died. I purchased a new power supply, installed it, but the computer won't go on. My next guess is the motherboard died too. Is there a way I can figure out if the motherboard went without having to get another one to try? (mostly because I don't have the time for a big repair right now)

Any comments, experiences, or suggestions are welcome. Help!

Thanks,

Do you get any activity, Do the Fans spin up, Any Beeps, Anything at all? Is there a light on the board to show power to the board? Have you checked on the back of the Power supply to make sure it is set to the proper voltage,(110/220)?
Please post back with more info.

Absolutely no activity with old or new power supply. It's set to 110. The computer had been on for a long time working fine.

Are you plugged into a UPS too? If so, maybe you tripped it's circuit breaker. Reset it per the manufacturers directions, and see if that helps.
Alternately (or in addition to) move everything to a diferrent outlet and see if it powers up.
You didn't pull anything but the PS out, right? If, in your troubleshooting, you started pulling the MB, or something -you'll want to triple check all connections. Heck even with the PS you'll want to. We don't know the MB formfactor, but be sure you plugged in the ATX and/or EZplug if needed, as well as the standard ATX 20 pin connector.

It is/was plugged into a Belkin SurgeMaster II. The surge protector didn't trip or shut off or anything. Everything else (monitors, router, cordless phone, cable modem, speakers) plugged into it then and now hasn't had a hiccup. I tried another outlet, but no luck. I hooked up the new PS the same way the old one was hooked up. It's just the one big cable-set going from PS to MB.

I'm sorry, I was just thinking that if it was an Intel, and perhaps the 4 pin wasn't connected..............
