Power supply problem?

Hello, I was wondering if someone with more knoweldge about computers could help me solve a problem. I recently bought a 20" inch HPW2007 monitor and an ATI X1650pro video card for an older computer (P4 3.0Ghz). I am now having issues with the screen blinking on and off while playing 3d video games. It does not do it any other times. My power supply is a 250W PSU and I think maybe it is not big enough. Does that sound right or is there something else that may be causing it to do that? Thank you!

Have you tried a different monitor? If it keeps doing it with a different monitor in place then it may be a video card or power issue. There is a chance that the PSU is a bit small for the system right now. But the problem sounds more like an issue with the monitor.

Yeah flickering on and off wouldn't really happen when the PSU can't handle things. It's more likely the whole PC would just shut down instead, or the PSU will work it's ass of, and go up in smoke instead

He added the new Items.. and what happens with an LCD if the Vid Card is not getting enough power is framing.... or totally dropped frames, and that would give black frames or colored lines... I would have said the same .. but LCD's are quite straight forward.

it sounds like a MicroATX kinda set-up and older.... they tended to be light in the +12 v.
and heavy on the +5.5 v and +3.3 v it probably has 8 amps on the +12v Rail that card is probably 6.6 - 7.5 amps.. by itself...

OP you Need a Micro ATX PSU with at least 13-15 amps on the +12v to make that not have an issue long term.


If your case will allow it a ATX 300 watt would be best... but I know space might be an issue.
