TT's PSUs are mainly made by Sirtec - the same company that makes Enlight and other brand PSUs and HighPower is Sirtec's house brand. Some models in their line are better than others (the 360W unit is one of the better ones, while the 300 and 400 aren't), but none are total crap. Due to the many brands that the same Sirtec unit might be sold under, you may be able to get the one you want under another brand for less.

I wouldn't trust my system to ANY Powmax. And it's a shame. Back in the days of the AT system (pre-ATX) they went by the name Leadman and their PSUs were very good. Now, you couldn't pay me to haul one away...

As the others said, I would save up a bit more and get a really solid PSU. But, if I had only $30. to spend and REALLY couldn't wait to save a bit more, I would possibly get the Link Depot (TTGI) 350W which is very well specified for a mobo that uses the P4 connector for the CPU, or the Rosewill (Coolmax/ATNG) 400W.

Indeed, I've had a 300W Powmax Leadman for three years now and it's easily my favorite of the ones used in my machine.

That's not anywhere near pre ATX. Your favorite PSU is a generic POS

I have a rackmount powersupply I built in college. Can pull 16a of a 115/120v line.
12v@58a,5v@40a,3.3v@40a.
Virtually non-existant ripple.

It's very useful for testing car amps.

Sorry, DTSA...,

My mind isn't quite as organized as it once was...

PSU hierarchy, rev 1.1:
Zippy OR PCP&C > Seasonic > Silverstone (made by Enhance), Antec, Fortron/Sparkle (FSP prefix models only and their 550W single +12 rail unit might be eligible for top tier - Very Zippy-like), Enermax > The Rest of 'em... OCZ might be up on the list too but they are too new to get a good feel for them yet.

Fortron has been making PSUs since the very beginning. I have one in a 1981 XT8086 prototype... They're still around. That should tell you something.

To put Antec before Fortron??? hahahaha. That's a good one!

so is the $30 budget a joke? you can't get much for that.

maybe a 300W Sparkle if you are lucky.

I mean for those four to be about on the same level.
. Channel Well ( http://www.cwt.com.tw ), which makes most Antec branded and major assemblies for PCP&C has been around for 12 years, that's plenty long enough to get a feel for them. And Leadman has been around at least as long as Fortron - longevity don't mean beans...
. And if a unit lacks verifiable UL/RU (with file no.) OR TUV certs - it doesn't even make the also-rans section!
