Non not necessarily. I think that you should never skimp on PSU and therefore should just save and invest. However if you want to spend $30-40 they are decent for the price. I feel very strongly that it is much better to save and get quality though.

I dunno. I don't think anyone should "want to" spend $30 to $40 on a power supply. You spend $30 to $40 on a CPU, you get a slower CPU. You get less RAM or a not-so-fast video card. You get a $30 to $40 power supply and you risk the stability of your whole system.

At least up the ante to $50. $60 or $70 and you're golden.

If the PSU has a UL/RU file number (e.g. E123456) on it, you may be able to look it up at http://www.ul.com and click on "certification". In the case of PCP&C et al. it won't because they do some of their own tweaks and final assembly and do the UL cert themselves.
TT is mostly Sirtec (HighPower is the house brand name). Some models of Sirtec (e.g. the 360 Watter) are pretty solid units while the 300 and 400 watters aren't so strong. the 230W SFX HighPower in my Athenatech A100SC is quite good.

Seriously, though. You're right about PCP&C. Take Antec, for example. They submit their own product to UL for testing and get their own UL numbers, but if you look inside, they say Channelwell in about a dozen different places. Usually you can get a part number or two off of the components, not necessarily a UL listing, and do a keyword search and find out from that. I mean, when you have a PCB that says "FSP-500..." you know it's Fortron Source. If you have "WIN-450..." on a PCB, you know it's Wintech, etc.

Ultra-X isn't made by Powmax, Powmax buys from Ultra (this has been gone over too many times!)

I have an Ultra-X and honestly it's one of the best PSU I've ever owned, and I'd say over the years I've owned a good 20 or so PSU's.

don't let the Powmax tie in, or the flashy look of the Ultra-X fool you, this is an awesome unit

I remember in one of the Ultra X-connec threads, someone got an email back from an Ultra rep who claimed they had no involvement whatsoever with Powmax, and they make their own PSU's at a place in China or something.. LOL


Just thought Id share. I liked my X-connect, and as some of you know, I only put it up for sale because it's not compatible with my Wavemaster. I like the OCZ Modstream I have now also.

They're made by Wintech, not Leadman. PowMax just sells them. PowMax USA buys them from either SED or Bell Micro and resells them. This is getting really old. You people just don't read. You just keep rehashing the same old BS.

I do agree with the heatsinks, though. They're too small causing the fans to often run at full RPM. The PSU is quiet when it's cool, but doesn't stay cool enough to keep the RPM's down for long periods.

I have a $25 Super-Flower in my budget gaming system. It's a 350W PSU running 22A on the 12V rail. I have a 9500PRO plus an OC'ed XP-M 2400+ @ 2438MHZ in my system. I have had no problems what so-ever. I don't know if it's a rebadged Enermax, but it's been reliable so far.

That's a good deal. I just saw that at Directron ($29.95, actually. Never saw it for $25.) Can't knock that. We sold assloads of TTGI/Topower at TCWO and they NEVER came back.

Oh.. and Superflower isn't a rebadged Enermax. Superflower is the housebrand for Topower/TTGI. An actual manufacturer.

Directron recently discontinued their $25 PSU. I've seen the $29 PSU and I compared the two. The rails were the same and the only difference I saw between the two was the external casing. The more expensive $29 PSU had a mirror finish and maybe an extra fan(I'm not to sure). I decided to purchase the plain jane $25 PSU instead.

Thanks for the clarification of the Super-Flower's TRUE manufacturer. Is Topower considered to be a QUALITY brand?

From the pictures and model-number descriptions on their site, assuming that they are correct, then both ThermalTake and Cheiftec PSUs starting with HPC-xxx are HighPower supplies, or at least they match in terms of specs, model numbers, and pictures, with the ones on HighPower's site.

Now, is HighPower an actual mfg, or just a branded importer of some other obscure far-eastern actual mfg?

Wow that's very interesting. I take it that TTGI is still makes good power supplies these days? A number of people have knocked on their reputation over the past month when deals on SuperFlower PSUs were posted, thinking that they were a crummy brand.

According to this link , the only reason that the SuperFlowers are selling so cheap at Directron is because they are somewhat overstocked on them. I just got my "520W color" model today, and it's a rather impressive-looking hefty unit. (Plus, you have to admire an online store that can admit that some of their other products are "junk", talking about a different PSU model that they carry.)

Incorrect. Mad Dog supplies (at least the modular models) are rebadged Topower/TTGI/Superflowers.
