I'm trying to decide quickly on a PSU for a P4, 2.8E Prescott --haven't yet picked out the mobo yet. It will go in either a mid or full tower case.

I would go with Antec, but can't afford it.

At newegg, they show some on sale right now and I need opinions.
I have less than an hour to put in the order.

The three are:

Thermaletake Silent Pure Power W0014, with a 5 star rating, 112 reviews.
Cost, $62. (not on sale)

Coolmaster Extreme Power, RS430, 430 Wt psu, 5 stars--no reviews.
Cost: $ 34.

Rosewill RV450, 450 wt PSU, with a 5 star rating, 21 reviews.
Cost: $30

Any suggestions as to what you'd go for?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

Don't ever feel like you're gonna miss out on a good deal for a PSU. I bought a TT PSU unit from Newegg about a month ago, and I'm regretting it now cuz i've seen even better deals since then.

Don't make rushed decisions. Take the time to study up on what makes a PSU "a good quality". One of the things I learned is to look at the amperage ratings for a PSU - and pay close attention to the 12v rail.

Thanks to all so far.

I am a bit rushed. -- at first I thought the tt for sure.

But then I saw the Rosewill at $30 less, for what looks like a better PSU.
Its 12v rail is 22Amps, while the TT is only 18.
While the tt is only 18.

The Xclio has two 12v rails, a 15 and 17. I'm not sure how two, work. I thought one would be used for the new PCI-e. If that's so, would that leave me with only 15 or 17 amps to power all my 12 v devices? That's way lower than both the Rosewill and TT. I need help understanding that a little more.

It's also $60 and out-of-stock. That's funny though. There are only two reports on it, yet it is out of stock.

I wanted to get something inexpensive, but not cheap--and since the Rosewill has 5 stars , lots of people buying, many reviews, is supposedly heavy and stable--people talk about running their P4 Prescott with it, I was leaning that way.

Still have about 10 minutes left. What to do, what to do?

Get the Seasonic as Airfoil suggested if you value your ears. It's the quietest fan-cooled PSU your money can buy.

But if you are on a budget and are willing to forego some of the niceties like superquietness, the XClio is a good value (better than the 3 you listed).

yeah, i wouldn't rush the decision nor worry about missing out on the x-clio. i was disappointed in the x-clio, the Tt 480 i had was fine for what it is. i'd personally stay away from rosewill, too many other options.

i'd go for the seasonic if the price works for you.

edit--if you want an x-clio, pm me

Thanks!

The time to buy is up.

You have convinced me.

The Xclio looks like a good choice as does the Seasonic.

My ears are pretty sensitive, so maybe the Seasonic is the way to go?

Oh, and if not to buy at NewEgg, then where?

At neither the Xcilo or Seasonic site, did they tell me if the cables are long enough for a full tower case. I'm going to have to email them.

I haven't gotten the case yet. I'd like it to have a 120 mm fan in frnt & back. (recommendations--pretty, fancy, lights, are not selling points for me. A slide out mobo tray and ability to get air through it are.)

If I remember right, I read somewhere that this Prescott CPU uses 125 wts by itself!
It's not uncommon, according to INTEL to have CPU temps at 70 C.

People have written, saying that they see internal case (not CPU) temps betwen 40-60 C or more.

The op. temp I found for the Xlico PSU is listed at 0 - 50 C. I couldn't find it for the Seasonic.

Will that knock the Xcilo out of the running?

I did see some of the other PSUs listed at 0-40 C. I'm quite certain the temp inside whateer case I get, will be at least 40 C.

It never occured to me to consider the PSU's operating temperature range, when I got the INTEL Prescott. --I've always used AMD.

So, now what do I do?

With your help, I have good leads on quality PSUs that won't break the bank--what's left of it; and the chase is on to find an affordable (least expensive) case that will move the air.

--This is really hard, especially with a processor that runs so hot. --

I appreciate all the comments.

Yep, Seasonic is the way to go if you are after a quiet PC. The S12 and Super Tornado are the top recommended PSUs at Silent PC Review.

Because it has a 120mm fan doing the ventilating, it should help vent your Prescott well, but you should also have additional quiet case fans (Nexus, Yate Loons, Panaflos, etc.) to help it along. And you want to put the BIGGEST heatsink you can find on that CPU.

HTH.
