Power Surge - PC Won't Boot

I was running my secondary Dell PC when the lightening struck and I think my PC got surged. Now when I connect the PSU, the LED on the motherboard lights up but the system won't boot.

I have tested the PSU and Memory and they both work fine. I also wanted to test the Hard Drive and CD-RW drive, but since the PSU is working fine, they should power up regardless of anything.

My only guess is that the motherboard is fried, but if it's fried then why is the green LED lighting up.

Please assist.

The exact same thing happened to my friend's Dimension 4600. Did you ever figure it out?

I recently worked on a Dell that got fried by a surge. I think it came in over the cable line. The cable modem was fried, had burn marks on the PCB near the Ethernet port. I guess it fried the Dell's onboard NIC. The motherboard was the only thing that died. Also the power LED on it did come on, it just would not turn on.

Unless your power strip had a surge protector or a GFCI, you might be SOL.

Try resetting the CMOS.

I had the very same thing happen to me. It was the night before finals and luckily i was working on my laptop and not my main pc, but it made this really loud sound and shut off. I figured since i wasn't really working on it, i'll just leave it and turn it back on tomorrow. Next day, it never came on. I opened it up, and everything seemed fine, except for a slightly burned smell. It turns out that my hard drive blew up. There was a big ass singe mark on one of the chips on my hd. And the crappy thing is, i had my comp plugged into a power strip that claims it has power surge protection built in. Power surge protection my ass. Now i'm always scared whenever my comp is on and there is a bad storm outside.

Do you get any error messages on the screen when you try to boot up?
