Power switch question?

I have a case that didnt have any wires coming off the power switch/light module at the front. The pcb with the switch in it isnt labeled, so i used a multimeter to find which set of pins closes its circuit when I push the botton, and opens again when I let off the button. Does sound like it would work ok? Those are the pins I hooked the wire to. Since there is only one button on the case, Im only going to hook up the power switch lead on my motherboard, and ignore the "reset" switch lead on the mobo. Sound reasonable? Also, I dont know which of the pins on the button module (on case) is for the power LED and for the hdd LED. Im just going to do a hit and miss with these till I get the right ones for the lights. Does this sound ok? Could I fry something? Thanks a million, this is my first computer build, and the case is a Micron Millenium full ATX case. Later.

Since it's an ATX power supply the momentary switch should do the trick (I've gone so far as to replace the power button with the reset button - they both do the same thing on an ATX rig).

You *shouldn't* mess up anything with the LEDs (the LEDs should handle the reverse voltage fine if you hook them up backwards - they just won't light). Just don't plug an LED into a non-LED plug (on the motherboard). I'm not sure what would happen, but I would guess that the speaker output for example *might* be fried by plugging an LED into it. Also, BE SURE not to plug a speaker or button into the LED port or you'll fry that output on the motherboard!

I thought I'd get this one and try to help, but bigjon is exactly where you need to be.

Anyone comes in here and wants to contradict him, they'll have to go through me first.
