Power tool question

I am planning to renovate my house (just cosmetics). I wanted to buy a nail gun. Should I get an electric or pneumatic? Any suggestions??? Thanks


I need brands/models that a DIYer would recommend.

For what you want get electric. Just check out the different models to get the right range of nails you need.

A brad nailer would work... You can often find inexpensive gun/compressor kits at the local Home Depot or the like.

Blast... I've used this and it was very nice, but it's 2.5 times as much as you want to pay, and it only does finish nails. It also smells really bad and I think the fumes are toxic. :disgust:

Not worth the money for what it sounds like you'll use it for.
But if you just have some cash and want to blow it on a tool, 'd go for the pneumatic ... gives you an excuse to buy a compressor

It's more than you want to spend, but Home Depot has a Porter Cable compressor with a finishing nail gun and a separate brad gun for 300 bucks. That's about half the price of the individual components.

An electric Brad nailer is gonna run 150-200 bucks for a decent one. Brad nailers electric in particular are limited to wire brads 1-1/2" or shorter. Useful but not all around useful. Electric nail guns for that matter wont drive a very large nails.

I have this unit and it is handy, but not for any heavy duty jobs.
It will through 3/4" plywood but not through hardwood trim.
