Me - The table saw and the chainsaw. It's not so much "scare" as it is "be way the hell careful". I remember helping a neighbor break up some fallen trees with sandals on thinking "this is a bad idea, remedy it". And after my eye injury a while back, my ass has goggles on with anything that could throw something.

To this day, I give a chainsaw super respect and care. A table saw stays put, a chainsaw doesn't.

We were working this job once, a good distance away from our town, and we were working with a some builders that we haven't worked with before and I'll never forget seeing one of the guys working with a chainsaw. He was sitting on the roof with his legs dangling over the edge, cutting the roof with the chainsaw between his legs. Got a big WTF from me.

I have been using both for decades without fear or issue. Must be a personal problem.

This is not a thread about scary tools but about idiots with tools that can easily maim.

Chainsaws are probably the scariest, but I always find myself using extra caution with a table saw and a miter saw just because its so easy to become complacent around them.

Also jointers: Even better than table saws for that combination of complacency inducing simplicity and horrible consequence.

Also fly presses though they aren't powered.

For some reason, belt saws...not a fan of those.

But it would so quick and painless...

Almost had my forearm/hand chopped off by a honey baked ham slicer when I slipped on my feet slicing a whole ham.

Imagine falling into this and your right hand instinctively attempts to balance...right hand, your weight, slipping hand, your weight...picture it.

I'm pretty sure that current regulations require that a machine like that needs to be guarded from bodily ingress during operation.

Being a retired die maker, I've worked with my hands and eyes in close proximity to tons of machinery. I've said this before here many times, there is nothing more dangerous than a pedestal or bench grinder. When you looked around the average die shop 35 years ago you likely wouldn't have to look too far before you'd see a half dozen people with missing fingers. Invariably, you'd ask how they lost their digits and pedestal or bench grinders would come out on top. They look so benign.

I don't like working near bush hogs. They'll chew up a 8" tree like it's nothing, and throw big rocks 100'+. For machines I operate, probably a chainsaw.

How?? Not setting the rests/guards properly?

Imagine a piece of metal sitting on a flat magnetic table. Huge two ft diameter wheel above it,spinning and grinding it flat.

All it takes is one wrong move and that wheel will toss some serious things. I watched a twenty pound block fly a solid 100 feet across the shop and into a concrete wall after it snagged on the wrong side of a grinder.

pedestal grinders are bad because they have a tendency to ripthngs out of your hands

Lol this moron thought a $150 saw should have the technology that a $1500 saw has? Geez... too bad his face didn't slip into it.

The injured guy was a new employee who was provided a cheap plastic table saw and taught to make free hand cuts without the fence in place. It wasn't totally his fault. Lawyers took it from there.

Anyone looking to get a decent table saw should look into the Saw Stop brand. Along with having a brake they are excellent tools in general.
