listen everyone needs to calm down about the PC vs Mac thing, I'm a PC user who recently became a Mac user. I own a 15" PowerBook 1.5Ghz G4 w/ 1GB RAM and ATI 9700 graphics with 128MB RAM, the 80 GB 5400rpm hd and a SuperDrive (DVD Burner for those who don't know), which is a higher end PowerBook as PBs go. I purchased this computer as a result of using PowerMac G5s everyday at school and my love of OSX (and yes I was a PC user). I don't think PCs are AWFUL, I just like the mac setup better. I don't think Windows XP is as good as it could be, but it can't be that bad if everyone is using it....
My PowerBook has never let me down nor has it seemed slow at ANY task save Apple Motion Pro (which is a resource hungry monster! lol) even then it was hardly a nuissance. I have purchased another gig of RAM to max it out (2GB) which will likely cure that problem to a degree. My point is obviously the pentium-M is a great chip like many have said it may be the only chip Intel makes that I'd ever consider (in the PC realm I'm an AMD fan). Its all a matter of personal opinion when it comes down to it. The mac system seems to be the choice for video/production people, which is what I'm involved in. The Powerbook comes with many connectivity options (that I needed, my external HD is FireWire 800) that even that I've yet to see on any windows laptop (true FireWire[6-pin variety], FireWire 800, Gigabit Internet). Though I do believe I saw gigabit internet on them not that this is a big deal for either computer. However the Intel run laptops have higher clock speeds, more cache and better power management. The G5 may have erased the gap but it won't ever end the debate, we could be on the G9 and still have this conversation. They are both great systems, Apples and PCs each have thier niches and pros and cons. It all comes down to what you want. However the G4 will soon be updated. The new one that is pin for pin compatible, meaning a drop in upgrade to the current G4, will scale to Pentium M's higher clock speeds, have a higher system bus (200+Mhz, not exactly 400 where the M is at but its something), a full meg of full speed cache, better altivec execution and better power management. Its called the MPC7448 and is being produced by Freescale (motorola offshoot) along with the mentioned dual core g4s. This may close the gap a little bit between the M and G4 as I do in fact believe that the Pentium M is a faster chip than the current G4, and yes as I said I am a Apple user now...
I liked my windows PCs (had 3), I love my Mac, I honestly like OSX better than Windows XP, doesn't mean it IS better, its my preference and that ladies and gents is what it all comes down to
