I agree the pentium-M is faster clock for clock then the G4. It's been proven to beat it time and time again in almost everything. For me, I have all the power I need in this powerbook. The ability to use OSX over windows XP easily outweighs any gain in performance from my point of view (but certainly not everyone's). I had/have an overclocked barton XP @ 2.3ghz w/ 1gig of pc3200 that was my main system before buying this powerbook. I don't notice any speed difference between the two for everyday tasks, photoshop, etc... The only thing I notice is gaming... and I don't really play all that many games...

listen everyone needs to calm down about the PC vs Mac thing, I'm a PC user who recently became a Mac user. I own a 15" PowerBook 1.5Ghz G4 w/ 1GB RAM and ATI 9700 graphics with 128MB RAM, the 80 GB 5400rpm hd and a SuperDrive (DVD Burner for those who don't know), which is a higher end PowerBook as PBs go. I purchased this computer as a result of using PowerMac G5s everyday at school and my love of OSX (and yes I was a PC user). I don't think PCs are AWFUL, I just like the mac setup better. I don't think Windows XP is as good as it could be, but it can't be that bad if everyone is using it....

My PowerBook has never let me down nor has it seemed slow at ANY task save Apple Motion Pro (which is a resource hungry monster! lol) even then it was hardly a nuissance. I have purchased another gig of RAM to max it out (2GB) which will likely cure that problem to a degree. My point is obviously the pentium-M is a great chip like many have said it may be the only chip Intel makes that I'd ever consider (in the PC realm I'm an AMD fan). Its all a matter of personal opinion when it comes down to it. The mac system seems to be the choice for video/production people, which is what I'm involved in. The Powerbook comes with many connectivity options (that I needed, my external HD is FireWire 800) that even that I've yet to see on any windows laptop (true FireWire[6-pin variety], FireWire 800, Gigabit Internet). Though I do believe I saw gigabit internet on them not that this is a big deal for either computer. However the Intel run laptops have higher clock speeds, more cache and better power management. The G5 may have erased the gap but it won't ever end the debate, we could be on the G9 and still have this conversation. They are both great systems, Apples and PCs each have thier niches and pros and cons. It all comes down to what you want. However the G4 will soon be updated. The new one that is pin for pin compatible, meaning a drop in upgrade to the current G4, will scale to Pentium M's higher clock speeds, have a higher system bus (200+Mhz, not exactly 400 where the M is at but its something), a full meg of full speed cache, better altivec execution and better power management. Its called the MPC7448 and is being produced by Freescale (motorola offshoot) along with the mentioned dual core g4s. This may close the gap a little bit between the M and G4 as I do in fact believe that the Pentium M is a faster chip than the current G4, and yes as I said I am a Apple user now...

I liked my windows PCs (had 3), I love my Mac, I honestly like OSX better than Windows XP, doesn't mean it IS better, its my preference and that ladies and gents is what it all comes down to

Well said! I'm glad you're also enjoying your 1.5ghz 15". I actually have the exact same specs but without the SD (I already had an external DVD burner). Kinda wish I would have purchased the SD, but I needed to cut costs slightly. Please let me know how the upgrade to 2gb of ram goes, as I'm running 1.25gb right now and am considering upgrading when I get some free cash...

I run lots of different machines. For laptops, I use a powerbook 1.33 and a T41, I also have a dell 9100 3.4ghz. The dell spanks them all but as for comfort and usability in my day to day, powerbook is used 95% of the time. I will admit the T41 1.6m is "snappier" with some things and maybe in general but it depends. As stated before, altivec enabled apps, the mac wins but for heavy web stuff and java, it's the mobile 1.6. That's most likely skewed by OS performacne and code but it is definitely more responsive on a T41.

None of those beat a newer dual G4 or G5 tower. It's no comparison. One thing that kills me in any laptop is HD speed. Those 4200rpm drives are pathetic. It makes any decent laptop seem alot slower then they really are. There is alot more responsiveness gained on any laptop from going to 768mb+ ram and a 7200rpm HD.

Agreed... I cant wait until the 100gb 7200rpm drives come out. I may put one of those in this powerbook over the summer along with another stick of ram (and possibly an 8x superdrive if they are out by then). But yes even at 5400rpm I know the HDD is slowing down this machine...
