Powercolor announces new Devil R9 390X

With Hybrid Cooling System Powercolor has just unveiled its latest Devil series graphics card, the Powercolor Devil R9 390X.
Based on AMD's well known Hawaii GPU (now called Grenada) with 2816 Stream Processors, which is pretty much the GPU that was behind theRadeon R9 290X, the new Powercolor Devil R9 390X also packs 8GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 512-bit memory interface and comes with a fully custom desing with 8-phase VRM, custom cooling and high factory-overclock.

The Powercolor Devil R9 390X works at 1100MHz for the GPU while 8GB of GDDR5 memory ended up clocked at 1525MHz (6100MHz effective).
The new Powercolor Devil R9 390X is also the only Radeon R9 390X graphics card that packs the Hybrid Cooling System, or a combination of a dual-slot air cooler and liquid cooling system. The Smart Air Cooling system, as Powercolor calls it, cools the VRM part of the graphics card while the liquid cooling system is probably taking care of the GPU and RAM.

According to our sources, the Powercolor Devil R9 390X should be priced at around €479 in Europe, which is a small price premium over the standard R9 390X. Unfortunately, we still do not know when it will hit retail/e-tail shelves.

That thing is UGLY. I'm sure it performs awesomely, but holy cow is it UGLY.

Agreed that it's ugly. But except for EVGA and XFX, I think all of these "over styled" designs are ugly. Might have something to do with differences between Eastern and Western aesthetics? Not sure, but for some reason companies keep putting out excessively styled, ugly cards.

Why do people care what a card looks like? You only see the side of it and that's only if you have a window in your case. I wouldn't care if my GPU had swastikas or pics of Ron Jeremy on it if it performed well.

TO answer your question, I have a nice big window, and I can see my card easily. When a card matches my color scheme, it looks even better.

I was thinking the same thing when I started reading this thread. But then you'll get the usual fanboys in here stating one thing or another just to get their word in, most to bash AMD, some to bash AMD and claim to be AMD fanboys, some to give legit responses.

How does someone even respond to this? So now we're bashing AMD because Powercolor, POWERCOLOR, made a horrendous designed?

I'll extrapolate from your post that if POWERCOLOR put the same design on a Nvidia chip everyone who said "this thing is ugly" will in turn post "this is the finest shroud design I ever have witnessed."

But I guess this isn't POWERCOLOR's fault, nope.

Exactly. The proportions are terrible, white comes off as the PC equivalent of 'rice-ing' out a car to me for some reason. Why does everything have to made into a graphics manufacturer "race war" on this site?

So the video card design is like car parts, intake manifold for your PC.

But it kind of reminds me of 1980s robotech or air wolf etc. that is now somewhat of a dated look and no longer futuristic.

Interesting, I think the card is butt ugly myself, and I'm pretty sure nobody here would call me an AMD hater.

To your point, There are definitely people here that if you added an LED green nVidia logo, painted the card black, it would all of a sudden be beautiful.

I don't understand the concern one way or the other though.

Call me vain, but I was happy to see the Radeon logo finally getting the glowing treatment on Fury X, also the load LEDs.

Red just happens to be my favorite color (my computer theme is red+black internals, white exterior - which means I rice'd it )

And honestly, I hate green (my mother painted to many rooms various shades of green growing up, I detest it - and brown, same reason haha).

My 780 Lightning had something similar to load LEDs on the top, which I miss. The ref 980 Ti is rather boring looking.

The colour contrast makes it ugly. Would be much better if it was one colour with some alternate coloured highlights here and there.

I think it's the 'buzy' factor and that it's not clean, straight lines like we're used on video card coolers.
