Not sure of it's sales potential, but it looks neat.

PowerColor announced the launch of a custom-engineered graphics card that features some surprising specifications. The Devil 13 Dual Core R9 390 comes equipped with not one, but two Radeon R9 390 Grenada GPUs paired with 16 GB of GDDR5. PowerColor's engineers even created a customized 512-bit X2 memory interface to handle the doubled frame buffer.

That huge cooler looks like a beast and all, but I still doubt it will be able to keep the GPUs cool under load, relatively speaking, unless you have some killer airflow going on in your case. Overclocking is probably out of the question too because of thermals. Which is a shame because the power delivery is nice. Now slap a water block on this puppy (Not that I'm aware of one existing but just sayin') and overclock it. Oh yeah.

This is basically the same card as the 290X2 they had before.

Temps are OK

Noise not terrific. about twice as loud as a 780 ti SLI.

Excellent performer. Although I'm not sure what they mean by "290 reference in quiet mode" as the 290 doesn't have quiet mode. That's only the 290X that does. It is Tom's reporting though.

Holy balls, that's one loud cooler. 61db? Yikes. It does look kinda cool though. No matter how old I get, I kinda like some tacky gaming designs like that.

On the bright side, it performs well enough, so I guess there is some overclocking headroom. For all its good attributes, that's the one thing I didn't like about the 295x2. The power delivery was cutting it too close for any overclocking. I was considering buying one that had the pump fail (Or did the rad leak? I dunnO) from eBay and mod a 240 rad and an AIO pump there. Ghetto, but for the sub 400$ the guy was asking, it was perfect. But alas, I'm an overclocker at heart, so I passed. Buying an AMD GPU if you like overclocking is already bad, that would be over my limits.

Well, the 390X2 should perform noticeably better than the 290X2.

Why do you think that? The 290X2 was two full Hawaii GPU's. I'm thinking they'll be about the same and clock for clock, slightly worse.

I've also read that the 390x2 is going to be $699 though. A lot cheaper.

Well, most reviews show the 390 performing about the same as a 290x. Sometimes faster. I think AMD have made some improvements there, so it may not be a complete rebadge. But I digress.

What will be interesting is the clocks. They went overboard with the power delivery, so they can suck as much power as they want, contrary to the 295x2. So, barring any cooling deficiencies, they can clock the cores high. At least high by GCN standards.

The 295X2 was two full Hawaii XT GPUs.

The benches above are for the Powercolor 290X2, using two Hawaii Pro R9-290 gpus.

Since the 390 is noticeably faster than the 290, I expect the Dual 390 card to be noticeably better than the above benchmarks.

The Powercolor uses 2 full XT cores as well. check the link for Tom's where the charts come from.

Well, that's confusing.

The previous card was using 290X GPUs. That is, a 290X-X2.

The new card is only using 390 GPUs, not 390X GPUs. 390-X2

So, the new card should actually be slower, not faster, than the previous card.
