It's $140 bucks AR right now and is supposed to be in between HD 7870 and 7950 performance-wise. The only problem I see is the heat. I also want to overclock it, so that adds to the temp. issue..

Should I buy one, and get an aftermarket VGA cooler for it? Is the stock fan good enough to keep it relatively cool? I really don't care too much about noise, but I don't want a lawnmower either.

I'm also thinking about getting two for CFX, but I think that I might create a volcano in my rig by doing so.

Hello, I'm a long time lurker on this board. I bought this card last week for that price and I can tell you im loving this card. I upgraded from a 6870 1gb. I game at 1080p with no issues at all. Personally I think its the best deal out there right now. If the price holds steady for another 2 weeks I may grab another one.

That's great!

Is it as hot as people say it is? I really want to CFX, but I'm afraid the cards might overheat and throttle.

How does it perform compared to your 6870? I haven't been able to find really good gaming benchmarks and reviews on the card, and that's probably the biggest thing that's holding me back..

I've got one as well. It's decently overclockable if you have one card (better ASIC quality than the Sapphire 7950 Boost I had), but I wouldn't suggest using this cooler for CF unless your case is a wind tunnel.

My MYST card is currently OCed to 1090 core in CCC with no voltage increase. I had it overclocked to around 1200 with voltage increase, but the VRMs would get pretty hot (90-100) and it did get really loud under stress. I forget what speed I have the RAM set to, but it's clocked pretty high by default.

Anyway, at $140 it's hard to imagine anything coming close in terms of value. It performs as well as a GTX 760 in many games, and that card costs $100 more.

I have this card - I got it sitting like at 1075/1550 I think it gets warm; if I was serious about pushing it I'd get aftermarket cooler on it.

It hammers most things at 1080p.......since I'm looking to go triple monitor I'll be upgrading mine lol but its been a good card so far

It will consume around 7950 power without delivering the same performance.
If you are upgrading from efficient mid range cards like 6850/6870/5850/4850 and whatnot this card will feel a bit different.
I have a sapphire 7870 XT at 1150/1550. If I let the cooler fan spin at default it can get into the 80*C with more demanding games. I generally just increase the fan speed a bit.

At around 1000 MHz core this card will probably match a 7950 at stock settings (the non boost version).

From Toms.

In my situation, power consumption isn't a big deal, since electricity is bascially free where I live. The reason I wanted it was because it performs nearly as good as a 7950 but costs almost 100 dollars less. Hell, I could buy a high-end VGA cooler and it'll still be less expensive. But from the looks of it, CFX seems to be a problem. Pooh!

BTW: I'm also looking at the DCII 7870 or R9 270x or the cheapest 7950 I can find.

My card does not go higher than 70C on Bf3. I haven't ran furmark on it. True the cooling could have been better on it. Overall the 7870xt is about 60% faster than my old 6870. The thing about the 7870xt right now to me is just how much you get for the price. Of course if you can find a 7950 for bit more go for it. Happy hunting
